It’s Karwa Chauth today. Karwa Chauth is a Hindu festival observed by married women where they fast for the longevity of their husbands. At times, even men fasts for their better halves. Several celebrities including Shilpa Shetty, Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are among few who celebrate Karwa Chauth. While Karwa Chauth is celebrated enthusiastically, keeping a fast and following the tradition every year is a personal choice. Having said that, let’s take a look at Bollywood celebs who don’t celebrate or keep fast for their partners on Karwa Chauth.

Rhea Kapoor. Rhea married Karan Boolani on 14th August, 2021. The couple dated for a few years before tying the knot on 14th August, 2021. Earlier, Rhea was asked about Karwa Chauth and she had said, “Respectfully please don’t reach out to me for Karva Chauth gifting or collabs. It’s not something Karan or I believe in. We respect other couples who partake and can even enjoy the festivities while they do. It’s just not for me. So the last thing I want to do is promote something I don’t believe in and don’t really agree with the spirit it comes from.”
She added, “For now I fee like if we take care of ourselves and each other we should be good. I only write this because it seems random starngers feel the need to aggressively convince me that I’m being ‘silly’, ‘have to do it’, ‘it’s my first’. No, thank you. Let’s move on? If you read this thank you for giving sh*t.”
Ratna Pathak Shah: Joining the list is Ratna Pathak Shah. The veteran actress was once asked about observing Karwa Chauth and she told Pinkvilla, “Our society is becoming extremely conservation. I feel that very strongly. We are becoming superstitious. We are being forced into accepting and making religion a very important part of our lives. Suddenly, everyone is talking about… Karwa Chauth ka vrat nahi kar rahe? Aaj tak kisi ne mujhse nahi poochchan.”
She added, “Isn’t it appalling that modern, educated women do Karwa Chauth, praying for the lives of husband so that they can have some validity in life? Because a widow in the Indian context is a horrible situation. Isn’t it? So, anything that keeps me away from widowhood. Really? In the 21st Century? We are talking like this? Educated women are doing this?” The veteran actress is married to Naseeruddin Shah.
Twinkle Khanna: Twinkle had earlier made it clear that she don’t believe in the tradition of Karwa Chauth. In 2016, Twinkle had tweeted, “These days by 4- u could be on the way to your 2nd marriage so what’s the point of fasting-don’t need the men to last that long anymore (smiley emoji).”A year later, she wrote on Twitter, “Scientists studying longest living mammals, bowhead whales found for a long life what is needed is a slow metabolism & not wives who fast.” Twinkle and Akshay Kumar are one of the most loved couples in Bollywood.
Sonam Kapoor: Sonam is known to speak her mind and fans love her for that. The actress had once revealed that her husband Anand Ahuja is not a fan of Karwa Chauth. She added that they both are ‘big believers that festivals and traditions are a great reason for family to come together’. She also mentioned that she respects women who celebrate the festival.
Last year, Sonam had shared photos on her Instagram along with the caption, “My Husband isn’t a fan of Karava Chauth as he thinks fasting should only be intermittent so I’ve never kept it! But both of us are big believers that festivals and traditions are a great reason for family and friends to come together. I love that my mom loves celebrating it and I love being a part of it and dressing up. @kapoor.sunita you always throw the best dos! Your energy and generosity is legendary and I hope to follow the same path! Happy KC everyone!”
Kareena Kapoor Khan: Kareena celebrates the festival but don’t believe in fasting. I am not going to fast. I am a Kapoor… I can’t live without food am not going to fast. And I can’t live without food. I would celebrate it by eating, working, by promoting my film.”
