Who stands where?
So far, films of Salman Khan have collectively earned around Rs 2804 crore. For Abhishek, the collection is almost half! He has contributed around Rs 1403 crore to box office. While Salman Khan is one of the richest actors globally, Abhishek Bachchan will have to wait for a long time to get into the former's shoes!
Here’s what all they did
From 1988 till today, Salman has appeared in over 70 films. His blockbuster film 'Dabangg' was a pioneer to introduce Bollywood to the 100 crore club. Salman has also launched and mentored a number of young perfomers including Sonakshi Sinha, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sooraj Pancholi. In fact, people call him one of the most successful films not just in India, but also in the world. On the other hand, Abhishek has some 42 films in his kitty, with handful of blockbusters and a number of superhits. His commercial success is certainly not at par with his critical success!
Introduction to fame
Salman's real shot to fame was Sooraj Barjatya's 'Maine Pyar Kiya' which minted around Rs 15 crore. Back in 1989, it was considered a good amount. For Abhishek, 2004 action flick 'Dhoom' introduced him to major fame. The four years in between were dull and he spent them doing average or flop films including 'Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke', 'LOC Kargil', 'Kuch Naa Kaho' etc. 'Dhoom' was the first blockbuster in his career and earned around Rs 30 crore.
Bachchan’s debut Bollywood stint
For Abhishek, it was renowned filmmaker JP Dutta who gave him his first break. He debuted with 'Refugee'. His co-star Kareena Kapoor Khan was also marking her debut with the same film. It did average business and earned around Rs 17 crore.
Khan’s debut Bollywood stint
Contrary to what many believe, Khan didn't have a very strong debut. He stepped into Bollywood with a supporting character in 'Biwi Ho Toh Aisi'. Directed by JK Bihari, the 1988 flick managed merely Rs 1.3 crore at the box office.
Meet the fellows
Here, meet the two Bollywood biggies! Salman Khan, the indisputable number one crowd puller and a thorough entertainer, has been enjoying stardom for many years now. However, born to iconic actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan's journey in showbiz has been quite topsy-turvy. Although his performance has received critical acclaim, many a times, box office numbers of his films are not so pleasing these days.
One is Bollywood’s all-time favourite superstar. The another carries legacy of the Bachchan clan. Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, both have spent several years in the industry now. However, their lifetime collections differ way too much. Salman has gone to be the most popular mass figure, while Abhishek struggles to get back to mainstream cinema with a successful film.
