‘Tiger Zinda Hai’
When ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ had released, we had never thought that there will be a sequel to the film. But, now YRF is all set to come up with the second instalment of the film titled ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’. The movie will be directed by ‘Sultan’ director Ali Abbas Zafar, and will bring back the hit jodi of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.
‘Golmaal Again’
‘Golmaal Again’ is the fourth instalment of the ‘Golmaal’ series. The makers have announced the film, but the release date is not yet decided. Earlier, it was supposed to release during Diwali, but then there were reports that the makers are planning to change the release date as they don’t want to clash with ‘2.0’. The film stars Ajay Devgn and Parineeti Chopra.
‘2.0’
We all loved Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-starrer ‘Robot’. And now, the makers are coming up with the sequel of the film. They have raised the bar of the movie by roping in Akshay Kumar as the antagonist. This is surely one of the most awaited sequels of the year. ‘2.0’ releases during Diwali this year.
‘Aankhen 2’
Anees Bazmee is all set to direct Amitabh Bachchan, Arshad Warsi, Arjun Rampal and Anil Kapoor in the sequel of ‘Aankhen’. The film is slated to release during Diwali this year.
‘Judwaa 2’
Salman Khan had made us go ROFL in 1997 release ‘Judwaa’, and now after 20 years, a sequel of the film is being made with Varun Dhawan in the lead role. The film will also star Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu. It is slated to release on September 29.
‘Atithii Iin London’
We all had laughed out loud while watching Ajay Devgn, Konkona Sensharma and Paresh Rawal-starrer ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?’. And now, the makers are all set to come up with the sequel of film titled ‘Atithii Iin London’. The movie, which stars Kartik Aaryan, Paresh Rawal, Kriti Kharbanda and Tanvi Azmi, is slated to release in May.
‘Baahubali 2’
‘Baahubali’ is the most awaited sequel of the year because everyone wants to know ‘Katappa ne Baahubali ko kyu mara’. The epic action drama releases on April 28, and we simply can’t wait for it.
‘Naam Shabana’
While there are many sequels releasing this year, there’s one film whose prequel will be hitting the screens. Well, we are talking about Taapsee Pannu-starrer ‘Naam Shabana’ which is a prequel of 2015 release ‘BABY’. The movie will showcase how Taapsee’s character became a part of the team ‘BABY’. The movie, which will also have a cameo by Akshay Kumar, releases on March 31.
‘Sarkar 3’
Ram Gopal Varma and Amitabh Bachchan have teamed up for third instalment of ‘Sarkar’ franchise. The movie titled ‘Sarkar 3’ won’t have Abhishek Bachchan in it, but there are some other talented actors in the film like Yami Gautam, Manoj Bajpayee and Amit Sadh. The movie is all set to hit the screens on March 17.
‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’
‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ is the second instalment of ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’. Well, this won’t be a proper sequel with a continuation, but the makers are taking the franchise of ‘dulhania’ forward. The movie which is directed by Shashank Khaitan releases on March 10.
‘Commando 2’
Vidyut Jammwal’s ‘Commando’ was also a sleeper hit. The film’s action was praised a lot, and it had worked quite well with the masses. The makers are now coming up with the sequel starring Vidyut and Esha Gupta in the lead role. It will be hitting the screens on March 3.
‘Jolly LL.B 2’
Arshad Warsi-starrer ‘Jolly LLB’ was a sleeper hit at the box office. After the success of the film, there were reports of the film’s sequel. The movie was announced, but not with Arshad in the lead role. Now the sequel titled as ‘Jolly LL.B 2’ stars Akshay Kumar as Jolly, and will be releasing on February 10.
In 2016, we saw many films that were the sequels or the third instalment of a film’s franchise. There were movies like ‘Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3’, ‘Ghayal Once Again’, ‘Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive’, ‘Jai Gangaajal’, ‘1920 London’, ‘Housefull 3’, ‘Great Grand Masti’, ‘Raaz Reboot’, ‘Rock On 2’, ‘Tum Bin 2’, ‘Force 2’, and ‘Kahaani 2’. However, from these only a few managed to make a mark at the box office, and most of them just failed to impress us.
