Sampooran Singh Kalra (popularly known by his pen name Gulzar) is one of the most renowned lyricist-poets. He is also an avant garde filmmaker. This man is the reason why I fell in love with poetry and eventually Urdu. There’s not a single day when I can’t find solace in this genius lyricist’s songs. And mind you, only a sensitive heart like him can pen down the emotions of his heart as it is on the paper.

Sometimes you admire someone so much that it’s difficult to express your feelings in words. And when it comes to describing how much I adore this lyricist, I fall short of words.

Because no amount of words or adjectives can ever do justice to the man of his calibre. Gulzar’s poetry and lyrics are so poignant that it instantly strikes a chord. His romantic songs are so poetry heavy that you have to listen to them twice and even Google some of the words. Once you understand the meaning, then there’s no way you can’t love that song.
