The actor whose real name is JaiKishan Kakubhai Shroff lived in a chawl with his parents and brother Hemant in the Teen Batti area of Mumbai. His father was an astrologer and had predicted that Jackie will be an actor one day.

Jackie changed after his brother drowned in the sea, this loss changed the actor and he soon started helping people near his home and earned the name Jaggu Dada. Everyone used to call him by the same name in the Chawl.

Jackie who started his career with the film Hero is a special name in Bollywood today. But it has not been an easy journey for him. The actor left his studies after 11th class and started looking for a job. He was very fond of cooking, so he went to Taj Hotel for a job but he did not get any work.

One day while Jackie was waiting for the bus at the bus stand, a man standing there asked, “Will you be interested in doing modelling?” And in response, Jackie asked,  “Will you give money?” This is how Jaggu Dada’s journey to becoming Jackie Shroff started. The modelling career soon became a stepping stone to acting. Asha K Chandra recognised his potential and asked him to take acting classes from her acting school.

Jackie Shroff met Dev Anand’s son Suniel Anand in college and requested him for a meeting with the evergreen star. Dev Saab gave him a small role in Swami Dada. Subhash Ghai found that he has potential and cast him in his film Hero. Overnight Jackie became a superstar and the rest is history. But not many know that the actor continued living in the same chawl post his success. It was on his wife Ayesha’s insistence later that he shifted to a hi-end palatial home with his family.
