2019 will be counted amongst one of the greatest years in Bollywood in terms of the massive box-office success of several films. After the super success of the ‘Baahubali’ franchise which broke several box-office records, this year a number of films took the ticket windows by storm.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, ‘War’ stars Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff in the lead. The action-thriller is the highest grosser of 2019. It minted around Rs. 378. 46 crores at the domestic box-office as per Bollywood Hungama’s report. Tiger and Hrithik were a treat for sore eyes in this action extravaganza. Produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films, ‘War’ also starred Vaani Kapoor in a pivotal role.
‘Kabir Singh’

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Kabir Singh’ traced the love story of an alcoholic surgeon who goes on the path of destruction as his lover gets married to someone else. Upon its release, the film created outrage amongst a certain section of the critics and the audience for its glorification of toxic masculinity. However, despite the criticism, this Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer earned around Rs. 331.24 crores at the Indian box-office. The film became the biggest hit of Shahid’s career.
‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’

Aditya Dhar’s ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ featured Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal, Mohit Raina and Yami Gautam in the lead role. The film was a dramatised account of retaliation to the 2016 Uri attack. At the domestic box-office, ‘Uri’ minted around Rs. 289. 68 crores approx. Vicky Kaushal went on to bag the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in this film.
‘Bharat’

Ali Abbas Zafar’s directorial ‘Bharat’ went on to collect around Rs. 251.27 crores approx. The film featured Salman Khan playing the titular role. Also starring Katrina Kaif, Jackie Shroff and Sunil Grover, ‘Bharat’ was the official remake of South Korean film ‘Ode To My Father’. This was the first time when the viewers saw Salman sport five different looks in a single film.
‘Mission Mangal’

‘Mission Mangal’ was a multi-starrer directed by Jagan Shakti. The film’s story was loosely based on the life of scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission, India’s first interplanetary expedition. The film featured Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, H. G. Dattatreya and Vikram Gokhale. ‘Mission Mangal’ minted around Rs. 238.8 crores at the box office.

Farhad Samji’s ‘Housefull 4’ was yet another multi-starrer featuring Akshay Kumar that set the cash registers ringing at the box-office. Starring Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde, Kriti Kharband and Bobby Deol, ‘Housefull 4’ collected around Rs. 231.67 crores at the domestic box-office.
‘Gully Boy’

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gully Boy’ earned around Rs. 165.58 crores. This Zoya Akhtar directorial was also selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars. However, it failed to make it to the shortlisted nominees. The film was inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers Divine and Naezy. It traced the story of an aspiring street rapper played by Ranveer. ‘Gully Boy’ also featured Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Vijay Raaz in pivotal roles.
‘Total Dhamaal’

‘Chhichhore’

After ‘Dangal’, filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari delivered yet another blockbuster in ‘Chhichhore’. Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma, Naveen Polishetty, Prateik Babbar, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Tushar Pandey and Saharsh Kumar Shukla, ‘Chhichhore’ earned around Rs. 182. 25 crores at the box-office.
‘Super 30’

Hrithik Roshan had a great year. After ‘War’ this is his second film featuring in the highest-grossers list. ‘Super 30’ minted around Rs. 172.87 crores at the box office. The film also starred Mrunal Thakur, Virendra Saxena, Pankaj Tripathi and Aditya Shrivastava in supporting roles. The film was based on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar and his educational program Super 30, which helps lesser privileged students to prepare for competitive exams for free of cost.
