‘Rockstar’
This film proved to be a turning point for Ranbir Kapoor. Imtiaz Ali could bring out the true performer in Ranbir. It is a musical journey of a small-town boy who rises to fame with his heart-wrenching songs, but what pains you more is the emotional love story that brings so much depth to his music. Nargis Fakhri made her Bollywood debut with his film.
‘Love Aaj Kal’
In this competitive world, how important it is to be practical when in love? Important enough to let go of your love for the sake of career? A dilemma that all of us might have gone through! In ‘Love Aaj Kal’, Imtiaz Ali has addressed this dilemma. Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan battle this dilemma in this film and we could relate so well with their story. Imitiaz has this power to be as realistic as possible and that works wonders for him.
‘Jab We Met’
This was the last time we saw Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor romancing on the big screen, but the feelings that this film held, will last for eternity. Imitiaz Ali could bring out every bit of emotion one goes through when love plays its game. The songs were terrific and so was the film.
‘Tamasha’
Imtiaz Ali roped in one of the most loved on-screen couples of this generation, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, for this film and cast the magic spell. ‘Tamasha’ had a typical Imtiaz Ali feel, giving love a new definition altogether. Deepika and Ranbir meet during a vacation and fall in love with each other. Ranbir is that fun, happy-go-lucky type of a boy who is a die-hard Bollywood fan. His charm attracts Deepika like opposite poles of magnet, but is that his true self? Reality is something different. Trapped in mundane life of modern age, it’s a journey to self-realisation. It may seem a little tedious in the beginning, but the bigger picture holds a lot of reality.
‘Socha Na Tha’
‘Socha Na Tha’ was Imtiaz Ali’s take on ‘arranged’ marriage in this age. It is a story of two individuals played by Ayesha Takia and Abhay Deol who fall in love with each other just by co-incidence. How their love unfolds over the clustered and complicated mindset of their families is something that makes this film interesting.
He may not produce and direct a dozen of films in a year, but whenever he does, he creates a masterpiece. The man who has given us films like ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Tamasha’, ‘Rockstar’ and a few more, Imtiaz Ali, celebrates his birthday today. So how can we let go of this opportunity to cherish the marvels he has given to Indian Cinema. If we look at his filmography, most of his films revolve around love. Shah Rukh Khan, who has collaborated with Imtiaz for the film ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, recently said that he sees modern-day Yash Chopra in the filmmaker and it is so true. Imtiaz’s films do not follow the age old mantra of love that Bollywood has been following for years. He always manages to brings a new twist, a new wave of love sagas that are worth endearing, and so relatable. (Also Read: LOL! Shah Rukh Khan has a funny take on Imtiaz Ali’s hair)
