Born on June 8, 1964 in Mumbai, Gavin was the eldest of the five children of a computer expert, Earl Packard and Barbara. His grandfather John Packard was an Irish man who settled in India.

A pioneer in films for bodybuilding
Expressing grief over his demise then, his co-star Suniel Shetty had said to Mumbai Mirror, "It makes me very sad to learn about Gavin's death. He was a part of all my initial films. In fact, he was the one who got Sanju (Sanjay Dutt) into body building, Bahut acha aadmi tha par producers se paise maang nahi sakta tha. Then at the end of the day, it becomes a hand to mouth existence. We used to train together a lot and when it came to bodybuilding, he was a pioneer. He exactly knew about every muscle, food intake. Any action film you say, he was there." [sic]
Introduced Sanjay Dutt to Bodybuilding
Sanjay Dutt gave a statement after the actor’s demise saying, “He was like a brother to me. He introduced me to Bodybuilding. I am a Godfather to his daughters also. I'll pray for his peace. I am there for his family always. Gold bless his soul." [sic]

Salman Khan's bodyguard Shera, who had also trained with Gavin said, “I knew him even before he came into films. He would be a part of a lot of bodybuilding competitions that I would also participate in. He had a nice personality and physique and I am very sorry to hear about his death. He was a friend of mine. Bahut achcha aadmi tha." [sic]

Gavin was mutually separated from his wife. His final years were spent with Daryl Packard, his younger brother, in Kalyan. He is survived by his two daughters, Erika Packard and Kamille Kyla Packard. Apparently, Sanjay Dutt is the Godfather of Kamille.
Struggled to get roles towards the end
The 48-year-old actor was struggling to get roles in films before his unfortunate death. He breathed his last on May 18, 2012, at a nursing centre in Vasai.
The ones who have grown up with a healthy dose of 90’s Bollywood films will surely be quite familiar with the face of late actor Gavin Packard. The actor of Irish descent was popular and noted for portraying villainous roles in many Bollywood films made in that period like ‘Sadak’, ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Chamatkar’, ‘Waqt Hamara Hai’ and many more.
But, sadly in the year 2012, the actor breathed his last due to a respiratory disorder. His funeral was held at St. Andrews Burial Grounds in Bandra. And although around 200 people came to pray for his soul, there was no one from the film industry who attended his funeral, as per the reports. He had shared screen space with megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and others, but none went to bid a final farewell to this actor.
