Nevertheless, Sutapa and Babil have also talked about the beautiful memories of The Lunchbox actor in our exclusive interviews. On Irrfan Khan’s 3rd death anniversary, we have compiled all those quotes that you definitely don’t want to miss.
When Irrfan Khan pushed Babil for his REAL debut act:
In an exclusive chat with us, Babil Khan opened up on his first role and how his father Irrfan Khan pushed him into it. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Babil Khan said, “I was a camera intern and the extras did not show up. The guy who was to play the character did not show up. Then Baba just pushed me forward. ‘This is your chance to go, just go’, he said. I was like, ‘What I can’t go’.
Sutapa Sikdar on her inter-religion marriage with Irrfan Khan:
Irrfan Khan’s wife told us, “My parents liked him more than me and always praised him and we just became good friends and also started sharing personal details. We never had any romantic moments but it was understood that we will be together. My father had no issues with our relationship, but My mother did have a problem, she asked me, ‘Are you really marrying a Muslim?’ On his side, as we took so long, that they were already used to it. We got married as we wanted to buy a house and we got a joint loan and that’s why we got married.”
Suptapa Sikdar’s first meeting with Irrfan Khan:
Sutapa recalled her first encounter with Khan saab, “I saw this thin lanky boy wearing black bell bottoms pants in very Mithun Chakraborty style and he put me off completely. Because I am born and brought up in Delhi so after the final interview went to see NSD, just to check how it is. There I met some seniors who were in their third year and we made friends. That day I was pretending to be a senior and ragged these people who had come. So I had ragged Irrfan. I just told him, “Oh you think you will be selected? Which place you are from? Jaipur Where is Jaipur? and more. But he was a very Sanskari boy, an extremely well-behaved, gentleman. Just after that, we sat to write the second test and he saw that she is the same girl and she is writing the exam. Then he realised the truth and hated me for it for some time.“
When Sutapa called Irrfan a ‘perfectionist’:
Sutapa Sikdar recalled the time when the Piku actor was her biggest critic. She said, “I used to do so much for him even then he used to remove faults. I used to wonder why I am doing so much still he is removing faults. But that’s his personality, even with scripts you know I wrote something sometime and he directed a few episodes of Banegi Apni Baat. I have done like 301 to 257 of that show or something. No director ever told me to rewrite the script except Irrfan. When he directed it, he made me write five drafts of the same thing.” She called him ‘a perfectionist’. She misses him as he was her ‘best critic.’
When Babil Khan talked about the death of his ‘best friend’ Irrfan Khan…
On Irrfan Khan death anniversary, let us recall the moment Babil became emotional while talking about his father’s death. The Qala actor said about his bond, “I just lost my best friend. My only friend, whom I laughed with and I joked around with and I was completely truthful myself with him. It was just devastating on a level that I can’t really put into words. But because of our friendship and the bond we had and the evolution that we went through together the memory. And the Nostalgia of that keeps me positive. It gives me the courage just to keep going and also when somebody so close to you dies you realise that all of this is temporary. You are going to die one day and because we make it such a permanent issue living life. And then suddenly you realise that it will get over in a jiffy. You just gave me the courage to just do what I want that’s why I just stepped into acting.”
