Set in the 17th century, it revolves around the brave Maratha Sardar Tanaji’s attempts to recapture the Kondhana fortress from the Mughal Sardar Udaybhan Singh Rathore. Ajay Devgn as Tanhaji the brave Maratha Sardar was truly a force to be reckoned with. Saif Ali Khan as Udaybhan was quite fearsome. Kajol too looked dazzling as Tanhaji’s wife. Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is based on the life of Rani Lakshmi Bai, a leading figure of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Aptly played by Kangana Ranaut the movie was a perfect ode to the freedom fighter. The huge sets and the amazing navwaris with perfectly matched jewellery restricted to Maharashtrian styles—like the moti haar and the pohe haar were a visual delight.
