Nagarjuna Akkineni, who is known as King of Tollywood, has turned a year older today i.e. on August 29. There are no double thoughts over how his power-packed performances and killer onscreen persona will always remain etched in the minds of cinephiles. The actor, who has starred in several films and television shows over the decades is fondly remembered for his hit song called “Tu Mile Dil Khile” alongside Manisha Koirala.

1. Did you know Nagarjuna entered the film industry as a child actor alongside his father?
Yes, he started his acting career in the year 1967 along with his father Nageswara Rao Akkineni aka NRA. The name of the Telugu movie was Sudigundalu. And after twenty-two years later, he debuted as a lead actor with the movie Vikram (1986) alongside Shobhana. It was the remake of the 1983 Hindi film Hero. 2. Did you know he has a degree in engineering from the USA?
Nagarjuna studied for a year of his Bachelor of Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University. Post that, he completed his education in B.S. in Automobile Engineering from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
3. Did you know the actor was married to Lakshmi Daggubati before marrying Amala?
In 1984, Nagarjuna got married to Lakshmi Daggubati, daughter of D. Ramanaidu, a prominent filmmaker, and sister of the actor Venkatesh and producer Suresh Babu. They had a son, Naga Chaitanya, who is also a Telugu actor. The couple got divorced in 1990 and he later married actress Amala. The couple had a son, Akhil Akkineni.
4. Did you know he shared the screen with both his father and sons?
Before the death of NRA in the year 2014, Nagarjuna had the chance to share the screen with him and his son Naga Chaitanya. They all featured in a movie called Manam that year. Many do not know that the movie also starred his daughter-in-law Samantha and younger son Akhil.
5. Did you know he is the co-founder of an NGO for dogs?
He is co-founder of a non-government organization called Blue Cross of Hyderabad. The NGO works for the welfare of animals and defends animal rights.
6. Did you know he loves sports and cars?
The actor is an ardent lover of sports and cars. For the unversed, he is the co-owner of Mumbai Masters, a team from the Indian Badminton League along with Sunil Gavaskar. He also has shares in Mahi Racing Team India along with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He is a car enthusiast and has a good collection of luxurious cards.
