PadMan
Akshay Kumar's much touted film, and the first of 2018, was set to hit screens on the 25th of January. 'PadMan', we believed, would take maximum advantage of the National Holiday. However, thanks to its clash with 'Padmaavat', it got pushed to 9th February. In a really long time, this the first time that a National Holiday release of Akshay has been pushed.
Airlift
The actor's another patriotic release 'Airlift' hit the screens on 22nd January, 2016. The National Holiday weekend was ahead, and it did wonderful business. The film was clashing with Tusshar Kapoor's 'Kya Kool Hai Hum 3'. But the clash had almost nil impact on 'Airlift'.
Baby
Digging further, his much acclaimed film 'Baby' had hit the screens on 23rd of January, 2015. It crossed the hundred-crore box office mark with ease.
Toilet – Ek Prem Katha
And why just Republic Day? Since past few years, his films have been appearing on 15th of August i.e. Independence Day as well. The last one in the league was 'Toilet - Ek Prem Katha', a satirical take on India's sanitation issues.
Rustom
The year prior, in 2016, 'Rustom' rolled out at theatres on the 12th of August, with an extended weekend ahead. With this film, Akshay also won a National Award.
Brothers
A film based on Mixed Martial Arts, 'Brothers' starring Sidharth Malhotra alongside Akshay released on 14th August, 2015. That makes it an Independence Day hattrick for Akshay, right?
Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara!
In 2014, the actor didn't have a Republic Day or an Independence Day release. In 2013, on 15th August, he came up with 'Once Upon A Time In Dobaara', a sequel to the 2010 gangster film 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai'.
In a rare course of events, Akshay Kumar’s ‘PadMan’ which was releasing on 25th January, will now hit the screens on on 9th February. This can be credited to its clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’. Given that Akshay’s films are a staple on Republic Day/Independence Day since past few years, this comes as a surprise.
