‘Dev.D’
‘Dev.D’ was a modern-day take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic Bengali novel ‘Devdas’. Its ending was way different from the earlier films based on the same novel. But all said and done, the end was far convincing to the modern generation.
‘Go Goa Gone’
‘Go Goa Gone’ is a 2013 Hindi zombie-comedy. The movie ends with the note “The end is near”. We are already waiting for its sequel.
‘Ra.One’
Shah Rukh Khan returns as G.one in the end, sitting on the rooftop, saving the family from any evil force. But what happens after that? Keep guessing the best suited ending, we can say.
‘Talvar’
The film was based on Arushi Talwar case and the true facts around it, but the way it ends surely raised many questions. Some really deep thinking went into the film despite whatever happened to the case in real.
‘Rockstar’
The film finishes as the two protagonists speak under the sheet, recapping all of the happy times the couple spent together. We wished the two had a happy ending.
‘Waiting’
Kalki Koechlin and Naseeruddin Shah end up waiting, but for what exactly, nobody knows. The film ends on this note, leaving the plot to the imagination of the viewers.
‘Badlapur’
This movie changed the course of Varun Dhawan’s career. Raghu’s last scene with Jhilmil is one of the highest points of the film. After Liak succumbs to cancer in jail, Jhilmil meets Raghu and tells him that he got the second chance, which people rarely get in life. She questions Raghu what good was all revenge for and she leaves but, Raghu is still silent and standing under the rain. No words spoken, no tears. Perfect end!
‘The lunchbox’
‘The Lunchbox’ was one of those movies where we expected a happy ending, thinking that Irrfan Khan and Nimrat Kaur will meet at the end. But, nothing as such happened. It ends with Ila leaving her husband and moving ahead in life, and Mr. Fernandes discovering the origin of that tiffin box. Ultimately both of them find the joy of life once again.
‘Udta Punjab’
This recent release also left some questions unanswered, like do the characters of Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt end up together? And, many more. The film chose to have an open-end so that the message is conveyed to the audience.
‘Dil Dhadkane Do’
This movie left some questions unanswered. Does Ayesha end up with Sunny? Does Kabir meet Farah? And many more... But, we’re not complaining. The family unites but on a lifeboat!
Times have surely changed! Those days are gone when the ending of Bollywood movies meant “happily ever after”, perfectly ending a love story, and a conclusion to the tale we were being told. Cinema has changed over few years, and so has Bollywood, along with the stories and the concept of climax. There are movies that leave an ending so complex, that you can’t help but watch it again and again till you get the essence of it. Then there are times when movies’ end are left to imagination of the audience. It seems exciting that filmmakers and audience love watching such movies. And yes, it works most of the times at box office too! (Also Read: One, two, sold! Bollywood’s iconic stuff that was auctioned)
