Shashi Kapoor, the enigma
Shashi Kapoor may no longer be with us, but his is a legacy that will live on forever. He was not just another face on the silver screen, but an enigma which lit up both commercial and art cinema. At the age of 18 and in the year 1956, Shashi Kapoor met Jennifer Kendal in Calcutta where the pretty lady was playing Miranda in 'The Tempest' as part of her father Geoffrey's Shakespearean production.
Their marriage!
Within a span of 2 years and in the year 1958, Shashi Kapoor got married to Jennifer Kendal after courtship. Basically there was a lot of resistance from Jennifer's family on their daughter getting married to Shashi, but the duo went ahead with their decision.
Family!
Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer are survived by three children -- Kunal Kapoor, Karan Kapoor and Sanjana Kapoor.
Birth of the Prithvi theatre!
After their marriage, Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal were part of several Merchant Ivory productions, and the most known 'Bombay Talkies'. It was their passion and love for art and theatre which gave birth to the Prithvi Theatre in Bombay in 1978.
The worst phase of Shashi’s life!
Talking about his till now perfect life, Shashi Kapoor in 1984 suffered one of the biggest shocks of his life; the death of wife Jennifer. She was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer.
Reinventing the theatre!
Lastly, the sad demise of his wife made Shashi go under a shock of his life. But that does not stopped him from maintaining and reinventing his theatre with his children. The only sign of his wife!
