Corsica, France
'Tamasha’ opened amid the serene beauty of Corsica, France. The picturesque locations had us relishing the beauty to every bit! The most crucial portion of the film that introduced Ved (Ranbir Kapoor) and Tara (Deepika Padukone) to us, was shot here. This included a magnificent sunset sequence and a day of Ved and Tara’s outing across the streets of the flavourful city.
Bastia Museum Cafe
The song ‘Matargashti’ that had become a rage way before the film’s release, was shot at Bastia Museum Cafe. The popular cafe is situated at the Place Du Donjon Square. The Corsica schedule began in the second week of July, 2014 and continued through the month.
Jaypee Institute of Technology, Shimla
After Corsica schedule, the team moved to Shimla in first week of December, 2014. Ranbir’s character hailed from Shimla. In one of them, we spotted Ranbir putting on a Graduate student’s uniform. He reportedly went to Jaypee Institute of Technology, in the film. Yash Sehgal, who essayed Ranbir’s childhood, shot his portion in Shimla as well. Ranbir’s sequences with Javed Sheikh (his on-screen father) were also shot here.
Bishop Cotton School
4)In the film’s later part, after a taxing process of putting himself through a life he didn’t want to live, Ranbir comes back to Shimla again. This portion was shot in March 2015. Filming in Shimla took place at the Bishop Cotton School, Ridge Road and Hill Town.
Kolkata
Tara Maheshwari aka Deepika Padukone played a young Marwari girl from Kolkata. The Kolkata schedule began around mid January and started with Deepika landing at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport.
Victoria Memorial, Kolkata
A few of outdoor night sequences were shot around Victoria Memorial, on the roads near Rabindra Sadan. Imtiaz Ali also shot the song ‘Heer Toh Badi Sad Hai’ in the city.
J Thomas & Co. Pvt Ltd.
Deepika’s workplace at Kolkata was reportedly shot at J Thomas & Co. Pvt Ltd. It is the world’s oldest and largest tea auctioneers which was established in 1861; back when Kolkata used to be the capital of British Calcutta and also the tea trade centre.
Hauz Khas Village, Delhi
As January was about to end, the team travelled to Delhi. A portion of the film was shot in Delhi’s Hauz Khas Village.
Gurgaon, IT Hub
Ranbir Kapoor shot parts in the Gurgaon IT hub and was clicked dressed as a corporate man.
Socials, Hauz Khas, Delhi
Portions of the song ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’ which topped the charts for weeks, was shot in Socials, Delhi, situated at Hauz Khas. It is said Riyaz Amlani, the original visualiser of Hauz Khas Socials struck the deal with ‘Tamasha’ as part of their product placement.
Decoding ‘Tamasha’ locations
As in the film Tara and Ved reunited, we saw love blossoming once more against a huge corporate setup. Those sequences were shot in Tokyo and lasted for two days.
‘Tamasha’, one of Imtiaz Ali’s most stirring creations (if not the most), boasts of an overwhelming amalgamation of real and surreal emotions.
