‘Mughal-E-Azam’ (1960)
Released in the year 1960, late filmmaker K. Asif's 'Mughal-E-Azam' is definitely a masterpiece when it comes to period films. The film had marvellous performances from its cast, huge grandeur, melodious music and a well-written and executed theme of different relationships. Regarded as one of the finest films ever made in Bollywood, 'Mughal-E-Azam' is also the first full feature-length movie to be coloured and re-released in theatres in the history of cinema. But, still it is an experience not to be missed on big screens, so therefore, 'Mughal-E-Azam' finds a definite place in our list.
‘Sholay’ (1975)
It's really difficult to express the fabulous cinematic experience of a film like 'Sholay' in words. Every single moment in this film remains indelibly etched on everyone's mind. Be it the visuals or the sound effect, 'Sholay' had all the perfect elements to make it a super duper hit. Without a doubt, 'Sholay' finds a rock solid place in our list.
‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ (1983)
Directed by Kundan Shah, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ is by far one of the most intelligent films ever made in Bollywood. The film was a dark satire on the rampant corruption in Indian politics, bureaucracy, news media and business which ultimately sees the common man getting stuck and facing the trouble. This cult movie had an ensemble cast, with talented performers like Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur, Satish Shah, Satish Kaushik, Bhakti Barve and Neena Gupta showing off their acting prowess.
‘Lamhe’ (1991)
Released in the year 1991, late filmmaker Yash Chopra's 'Lamhe' is regarded as one of his finest works. The film received critical acclaim but didn't do wonders at the box office. The plot of the film was way ahead of its time and probably that is why it did not fare well at the box office. Beautifully expressed story line and heart touching performances of its lead cast, Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, Anupam Kher and Waheeda Rehman makes 'Lamhe' a worth watch on big screens again.
‘Andaz Apna Apna’ (1994)
Over the years, 'Andaz Apna Apna' has turned out to be a cult film in the genre of comedy films. The cast included Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor in the lead roles. Every single character in this film ensured that the audiences were left in splits after watching the film. Special mention to the epic dialogues of the film that we still remember! Surely, 'Andaz Apna Apna' is one joyride experience that should be relived on big screen.
‘Dil Chahta Hai’ (2001)
Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar's debut film 'Dil Chahta Hai' actually made way to a new wave in Bollywood. Just like a fresh breath of air, 'Dil Chahta Hai' proved to be that one film to which everyone could resonate to! It carried the depiction of youth in a perfect, realistic manner. The film certainly proved the versatility of superstar Aamir Khan and also made everyone notice the potential of actors like Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna. A refreshing and different approach towards cinema, 'Dil Chahta Hai' is definitely a must watch on big screens again.
‘Rang De Basanti’ (2006)
Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Rang De Basanti’ was a modern, thought-provoking movie that literally took the level of awareness and self-discovery to another level. The film grows on gradually and the director has made sure that message of the film is presented in the most effective way. Surely, with its brilliant casting, well-written script, amazing musical score and tight execution, this masterpiece doesn’t carry a single dull moment in it.
Recently, the Hindi version of filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ re-released in over 1000 screens. There are exactly three weeks left from now to catch the second part titled ‘Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion’ on big screen. But ahead of the big release, the makers of ‘Baahubali’ opted for a well planned strategy of re-releasing the first part to create the buzz. But hey, don’t you think it is a great idea to re-release the film and give audiences a beautiful experience, once again?
