Bhanu Athaiya
Indian costume designer Bhanu Athaiya has styled many Bollywood actors and also worked with eminent filmmakers like Yash Chopra, Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt and Ashutosh Gowariker. She won an Oscar for her work in the movie 'Gandhi' (1982) along with John Mollo in the Best Costume Design category. She was also the first Indian to win the coveted Oscar ever.
Gulzar
The legendary lyricist and film director Gulzar bagged an Oscar for Best Original Song "Jai Ho" from the movie 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Unfortunately, he could not make it to the Oscars to collect the award himself.
AR Rahman
The multi-talented man, AR Rahman, who is a music composer, singer-songwriter, music producer and musician is considered Indian cinema's biggest music director today. Mr Rahman bagged an Oscar for Best Original Song "Jai Ho" from the movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' and if that wasn't enough, he was awarded another Oscar for Best Original Score for Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire'. In his acceptance speech, he uttered the famous Hindi dialogue from the movie 'Deewar' and said "Mere paas maa hai".
Satyajit Ray
One of the finest directors of Bengali and Indian cinema, Satyajit Ray is remembered for his exemplary work in movies. His achievements were noticed by the world and he bagged an Honorary Oscar in 1992 for Lifetime Achievement. Since, Ray was bedridden at the time, he gave his acceptance speech from bed via a live video feed.
Resul Pookutty
Resul Pookutty is a renowned film sound designer, sound editor and mixer. He bagged the Oscar for his work in 'Slumdog Millionaire' in the Best Sound Mixing category. He won the award along with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke. This huge achievement gave him newfound recognition and put him on the global map.
