The fight!
By now we know that 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' was denied certification. In fact, in one of the interview, Alankrita Shrivastava revealed that Pahlaj Nihalani wanted her to beg and plead to pass his film. She was quoted saying, "He (Pahlaj Nihalani) simply said, 'we have made a unanimous decision that we won't certify it.' His secretary slyly asked if I had anything to say, as though I must beg or plead with them. This cannot be how a free country functions." But the makers did not accept defeat. They fought the battle and finally acquired the certification. They approached Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) who then ordered CBFC to grant certification to this film. This was right in the face of CBFC.
The poster!
After all the fight, the makers unveiled the most amusing poster we have ever witnessed till date. With the lipstick making it for the middle finger, this poster came as a tight slap to all the haters (read CBFC here) who tried to suppress this film. 'It takes balls to be a woman', while the poster rebels otherwise.
Accolades from all corners!
While the makers were struggling to acquire recognition from authorities here, it came as delightful surprise for them when they got chosen for Golden Globes. Yes, the so-called 'most controversial film of the year that CBFC did NOT want you to see', is now eligible for the next Golden Globe Awards. "We are honoured that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has chosen our opening night film, 'Lipstick Under My Burkha', to be an official Golden Globes qualifying screening. The director of the film will now have the opportunity to properly plan a Golden Globes campaign should she choose to submit the film for nomination," is what Director of Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles Christina Marouda said in a press statement. Pahlaj Nihalani, you may want to take a note of this!
The mind-boggling trailer!
With a confirmation on the release date of the film, the makers released the official trailer of the film and we were left speechless. It definitely had all those elements that CBFC did not want you to see. For a change, we have a film that talks about female fantasies and it is NOT AT ALL about men. Society has suppressed us for long, but no more! The trailer screams rebelliousness and we are simply loving this scream! Within no time, the trailer has garnered millions of views on YouTube.
#LipstickRebellion Campaign!
The makers have launched a social media campaign called #LipstickRebellion which gives freedom to women to express themselves without any inhibition. We are free to live our life on our own terms and no body has the right to set rules for us!
It is a ‘lady-oriented’ film and hence denied certification. The journey of ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha‘ has not been easy. The film that received accolades at many prestigious international film festivals, struggled to get recognition on its home turf. But all is well that ends well, ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ is all set to release on July 21. It is a story of 4 women and their secret lives, lives about women desires and fantasies and everything that society does not want us to see and be aware of. We must say, the makers of this film have been extremely rebellious in their approach and for a change, their rebelliousness is being accepted.
