‘Charas’
'Charas' (1976) was his first big screen project. He essayed the role of an intelligence officer who was in search of a group of smugglers. He shared screen space with veteran actor Dharmendra in it and it was a big moment for the actor.
‘Shatranj Ke Khilari’
Then, in the year 1977, he worked in Satyajit Ray's 'Shatranj Ke Khilari' in which he portrayed the role of a personal secretary to General James Outram (Richard Attenborough).
‘Des Pardes’
In this 1978 movie helmed by Dev Anand, Tom Alter got a chance to play the role of a police officer named Martin. Another feather was added in his repertoire of performances.
‘Aashiqui’
In 1990, he played the character of Arnie Campbell in the superhit flick 'Aashiqui'. His character was a guardian to Annu Aggarwal's character and had grey shades. He pulled off the role with utmost ease.
‘Veer Zaara’
In the year 2004, the actor was seen in the movie 'Veer Zaara' in a really small role. He played the role of a doctor and barely had a scene in the movie, yet he is remembered for those few scenes.
‘Bheja Fry’
Once again, he essayed the role of a doctor in the comic-caper 'Bheja Fry' and in spite of a minuscule role, he brought a smile on our faces.
Last night, we lost a gem from the sparkling world of cinema; a poet, an actor, and a humble human being; Tom Alter, a pool of talent, one who gave us some splendid performances on the big screen in pivotal roles. An Indian actor of American descent, and a proud recipient of Padma Shri, his loss will be forever felt.
