Ranveer essayed the role of Kabir Mehra in this movie directed by Zoya Akhtar. He was seen as the son of a rich businessman who is forced into family business against his desire to become a pilot. The movie had an ensemble cast comprising of actors like Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Anushka Sharma and Rahul Bose. But in spite of such a talented star cast, Ranveer managed to hold his own. After essaying the role of an intense lover in ‘Ram Leela’, this was a welcome change and Ranveer as a rich brat was truly the surprise package. This movie was an underrated classic but Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha were applauded for their intense performances. Never has Ranveer Singh been so subtle, yet so effective and charming. It was a slightly edgy romance that not many people could resonate with, but Ranveer who has the persona of a lively and energetic performer was subtle and effectively silent in the movie, that won him appraise. It showed his range of versatility as an actor.
