Bollywood and controversies go hand in hand and the year 2022 is no different. The year saw some amazing highs and lows with some popular movies failing to capture the audience’s attention while some turning blockbuster hits. Similar to this there were some controversies that caused the downfall of movies whereas some created a buzz on the internet. Pathaan Besharam Rang controversy

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Pathaan has been in news since its inception. The posters and the teaser were loved by fans and the first song Besharam Rang went on to break records as the most viewed. But soon the song started facing flak. The controversy around ‘Pathaan’ was triggered after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra objected to it claiming that the song hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community as Deepika is seen wearing a saffron two-piece. Many rights groups have called for a boycott of the movie.

Ranveer Singh photoshoot:

The Gully Boy star is known for his unconventional dressing sense but he set the internet abuzz with his photoshoot for Paper Magazine’s cover shoot. The actor shed his inhibitions and posed for the cameras without a stitch of clothes covering his body. Soon the actor was embroiled in a controversy as many criticised him for his bold photoshoot. But there were many others such as Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt and more who stood by the Padmaavat star. The Mumba police filed FIR under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code like 292 (sale of obscene books, etc), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young people), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and provisions of the Information Technology Act.

Laal Singh Chaddha boycott

Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Laal Singh Chaddha bore the brunt of the boycott trend that took the nation by storm. Right before the release of the Aamir Khan film Twitter users started trending the hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha. They asked people to not watch the movie. Aamir Khan was charged with insulting the Indian Army.  The Sanatan Rakshak Sena members of the Hindu community asked for the nationwide ban of Aamir’s Laal Singh Chaddha. The effect of the hysteria was felt when the movie was declared a failure.

Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt not allowed in Ujjain Temple:

Ranbir -Alia came together for the first time in Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra. The team promoted the film on major platforms across the nation. A part of the team’s strategy was to visit several renowned temples across the country and greet their fans. But due to the Boycott Bollywood trend, people dug up old content and controversies of the actors and used it against them. The same took place in Ujjain and the stars refrained from entering the temple. The reason for this was an old video doing rounds on the internet about Ranbir Kapoor admitting to eating beef. This angered the Hindu community of Ujjain and what happened next was history.

 The Kashmir Files criticism at IFFI

Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files was called a propaganda and vulgar movie at the International Film Festival of India. It was by the head of the jury Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid. No sooner did the filmmaker share his views on the movie than the entire cast responded to his remark with their disappointment. Finally, the Israeli filmmaker apologised for his comments on the same.

Ajay Devgn And Kiccha Sudeep Hindi language row

Bollywood’s Singham Ajay Devgn and Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeepa exchanged words on social media. It was over the status of the Hindi language being regarded as Rashtriya Bhasha. The Vikrant Rona actor had tweeted that Hindi is no more a national language.  Devgn soon tweeted that it is and always will be our national language. Kiccha Sudeep had made the comment in regard to South films like KGF, Pushpa and more going on to be blockbuster hits across India. But their comments left the internet divided.

Jacqueline Fernandez’ ED interrogation:

The Kick star has been embroiled in controversy ever since her name was linked to conman Sukesh Chandrashekar. ED had filed a supplementary chargesheet in the Rs, 200 crore extortion case. Jacqueline was summoned by the ED several times in connection with the case. The agency named her as an accused for the first time in the supplementary charge sheet. She was recently granted bail on a personal bond of Rs. 2 lakhs and one surety in the like amount.
