Indian cinema is extending its reach worldwide and the year 2023 played a huge role in it. From RRR becoming an international award season favourite in 2023, including its Oscar win to Ektaa R Kapoor winning an International Emmy, this year saw many big global achievements for Indian artists. Here’s commemorating all those achievements to honour all those Indians.
Indians who brought International glory in 2023
RRR & Guneet Monga Oscar win
It was double celebration for the Indian film fraternity at this year’s Academy Awards. RRR bagged an Oscar in the Best Original Song category for MM Keeravani’s Naatu Naatu in 2023. Whereas Guneet Monga won for the Best Documentary Short Film award during the same night for The Elephant Whisperer. Not just that, but RRR won many other international awards including the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and many more.
Deepika Padukone presenting at Oscar
The Indian representation at Oscars expanded as Deepika Padukone was invited to be a presenter at the show. Earlier this month, she also became the first Indian actress to be invited at the Academy Museum event.
Vir Das & Ektaa Kapoor Emmy win
It was a double whammy for India at the International Emmy Awards 2023 as well. Producer Ektaa R Kapoor won the International Emmy Directorate Award. She became the first Indian woman to achieve this honour. The same night, Vir Das also won in the Best Comedy category for his Netflix Special Vir Das: Landing.
Alia Bhatt made her Hollywood debut with Heart Of Stone
Alia Bhatt is already one of the most sought after leading actresses in the Indian film industry today. This year, she added yet another feather in her cap. The actress made her Hollywood debut with the Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan co-starrer Heart Of Stone. She played the antagonist in the film.
Karan Johar honoured by the British Parliament
Karan Johar completed 25 years as a director in the Indian film industry in 2023. To mark that, the British Parliament honoured him for his invaluable contribution to the global entertainment industry. The filmmaker also received an honour at the International Film Festival of Melbourne.
Bhuvan Bam receiving the Septemius Award
Bhuvan Bam has created a brand of his own working in the entertainment industry. Starting his career as a content creator, Bhuvan went on to become an actor as well as a writer. This year, he received the title of Best Content Creator at the Septemius Awards 2023 in Amsterdam. He was also nominated in the Best Actor category for his show Taaza Khabar.
Richa Chadha honoured by the French Givernment
At the MAMI Film festival this year, Richa Chadha was bestowed with the title of Chevalier des arts et des letters on behalf of the French Republic. The honour came in recognition of the work done by the actress in the field of arts.
Angad Bedi made his sports debut
Angad Bedi paid tribute to his late father Bishan Singh Bedi by making his sports debut this year at the Open International Masters 2023 Athletics Championship held in Dubai. The actor not just participated but also won the Gold medal in the 400 metre race. He dedicated his win to his father who passed away just a while before his race.
Vijay Varma won Best Actor at the Asian Academy Creative Awards
Vijay Varma has had a tremendous year work wise with projects like Dahaad and Jaane Jaan. And the former even bagged him an international honour. The actor was bestowed with the Best Actor award at the Asian Academy Creative Awards. Not just him, but actress Rajshri Deshpande bagged Best Actress for her role in Trial By Fire. The awards honour the best of talent in the Asia-Pacific region.
