Zaheer Khan-Sagarika Ghatge’s love story: From dating to engagement to wedding plans

It was in 2016 when the reports of Sagarika Ghatge dating cricketer Zaheer Khan were doing the rounds. Apparently, the two had met through common friends and liked each other. Well, both of them had not officially announced their relationship. But, it had become quite evident when the two were spotted together at Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech’s wedding reception.

Engagement announcement

Recently, Zaheer Khan on his Twitter handle posted a picture of himself and Sagarika, and announced their engagement. Along with the picture he posted, “Never laugh at your wife's choices. You are one of them !!! Partners for life. #engaged @sagarikavghatge.” Talking about it, Sagarika told Bombay Times, “It was not planned. Zac does things his own way. I'm sure he just felt it right to announce the news on his social media page. And once he did that, I reacted to it. It was a happy moment for us. We thought instead of building up the speculation, we'd rather let everyone know ourselves. Zac and I are private people, but we wanted to share this news with everyone.”

The ‘Chak De India’ connection

So, for the uninitiated, Sagarika Ghatge had made her Bollywood debut alongside Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Chak De India’, and in the movie her boyfriend too was a cricketer. However, the actress says that it is just a co-incidence. She told the daily, “It's a coincidence that Zaheer too is a cricketer, but there's no connect beyond that. What happened in the film was completely the opposite! Zac is not the kind of person who remembers much about films, but he had an idea that messages regarding it would follow (laughs!).”

The Zaheer-Sagarika connection

We always want to have some similarities with our life partner, and even Sagarika and Zaheer have some. Talking about it, the actress said, “Zaheer has achieved so much, but he is still very grounded. I have known him for two-three years now. Though we are very different, we share a few similarities as well. For instance, we are alike in terms of what we think of life and what we want from it. Also, we both love food.”

Wedding plans

We are sure that after announcing the engagement, everyone wants to know when the two are planning to tie the knot. Here’s what Sagarika has to say about it, “We will throw an engagement party after the (IPL) tournament ends. As far as the wedding is concerned, I'll sit with my parents and figure out a date. These days, all the good venues get booked in advance. So, once we get the venue, we'll decide on the date. There's no special date in our minds as such.”
