Malayalam film Jallikattu is out of Oscars 2021 race. It was official Indian entry at the upcoming 93rd Academy Awards, 2021, in the Best International Feature Film category. The shortlists in nine categories were announced today (February 10). Short film Bittu has made it to the next round in Best Live Action Short Film segment. It is directed by Karishma Dev Dube. Bittu is based on a true story of friendship between two school friends.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) made the announcement of nine shortlists for the following categories: International Feature Film, Documentary, Original Score, Original Song, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects, Live-Action Short Film, Documentary Short Subject, and Animated Short Film.

Talking about Jallikattu, it is based on the short story Maoist by Hareesh. It has Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad and Santhy Balachandran. The film has got positive reviews from critics and audience. The movie is directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery.
While Bittu is part of 10 film shortlists that include Da Yie, Feeling Through, The Human Voice, The Kicksled Choir, The Letter Room, The Present, Two Distant Strangers, The Van and White Eye. Bittu is presented by Indian Women Rising (IWR), formed by filmmakers Ekta Kapoor, Guneet Monga, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana, and Ruchikaa Kapoor.
Oscars 2021 nominations will be announced on March 15. The show is scheduled to take place on April 25. The 93rd Academy Awards was earlier scheduled to be held on February 28, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it has been postponed.
