Oscars 2021 Nominations: Suriya starrer Soorarai Pottru out of the race

Suriya and Aparna Balamurali starrer Soorarai Pottru is out of the Oscars 2021 race. The Sudha Kongara’s directorial failed to be in the final list of Oscar nominations. But fans are happy that it joined the Oscars in the eligibility list of Best Actor and Best Film though it couldn’t make it to the nominations list. In February this year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed that the 366 feature films were eligible for consideration at the 93rd Oscars. Soorarai Pottru was competing in the race for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score and other categories in the Academy Awards 2021. 

Today, Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas announced the Oscars nominations list. Priyanka’s The White Tiger got nominated in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.

Soorarai Pottru was accepted for screening at the Academy Screening Room. The members had to vote for a movie several times so that it can qualify for the next round. Academy voting started from March 5 to March 10. Unfortunately, Soorarai Pottru didn’t get many votes to make it to the final list.

Soorarai Pottru is based on the biography of Capt Gopinath, founder of the low-cost airline, Air Deccan. It released directly on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2020. The movie got an overwhelming response from all across the globe. Critics also gave positive reviews. Apart from Suriya and Aparna Balamurali, the movie also starred Mohan Babu, Paresh Rawal, Krishnakumar, Vivek Prasanna and Karunas in pivotal roles. It has been co-produced by Suriya and Guneet Monga.

Meanwhile, the 93rd Academy Awards will be held on April 25 at Los Angeles historic Union Station and the landmark Dolby Theatre in LA.
