Soorarai Pottru: Suriya starrer joins the Oscars 2021 race

Sudha Kongara Prasad’s Soorarai Pottru starring Suriya is now in the Oscars race under general category. The film has been made available in the Academy Screening Room. It will be competing in the race for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score and other categories in the Academy Awards 2021. This is great news not only for the team but also for India. Producer Rajsekar Pandian took to his Twitter handle and shared the news.

On Republic Day, Pandian tweeted, “Happy Republic Day! #SooraraiPottru joins OSCARS under General Category in Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score & other categories! The film has been made available in the Academy Screening Room today (sic)”. He also shared the screenshots of the mail that the team received from the Academy Awards committee.

Composer GV Prakash also shared the news on Twitter and expressed his excitement for the feat. He wrote, “Am super happy to announce that Soorarai Pottru enters the Oscars Race.. including best original score category… god bless (sic).”

Soorarai Pottru is about the life of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath and the aviation industry. It released directly on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2020, and received positive reviews from the critics and audiences as well.

Apart from Suriya, Soorarai Pottru also stars Aparna Balamurali, Mohan Babu, Paresh Rawal, Krishnakumar, Vivek Prasanna and Karunas in pivotal roles.
