The MCU fans clearly had a meltdown when Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire reprised their roles in the Tom Holland and Zendaya starrer Spider-Man: No Way Home. But it was even more heartwarming to see Andrew Garfield being the key in saving MJ during her fall bringing his story with Emma Stone to a full circle.
In a recent interview, Andrew revealed why he decided to be part of Spider-Man: No Way Home. He told Variety the scene where he saves Zendaya aka MJ’s life was what sold him to the movie, he said, “I will say the image of my catching (Zendaya’s) MJ–that was really beautiful and it kind of sold me on the whole thing.”
Garfield said that he wanted to have a meaning to his appearance again in the movie and did not want it to be a passing one, “Tobey and I, but I think we managed to achieve something that is not just showing up and going, ‘Hi! Bye!’ My Spider-Man got to save his younger brother’s (Tom Holland’s Spider-Man) romantic relationship, potentially.”
We all know that in Andrew’s The Amazing Spider-Man universe, he lost his lady love, Gwen Stacy, to a fall exactly like MJ’s, “To heal the most traumatic moment of his own life through doing it for his younger brother. Making sure that he didn’t have the same fate, there’s something cosmically beautiful about that. It meant getting a second chance at saving Gwen…I am so grateful that I got to tie up some loose ends for the Peter that I was playing.”
