BTS’ Min Yoongi, aka Suga, made the headlines at the start of August as he was under investigation for drunk-driving an e-scooter in Seoul. Now, over a month later, the prosecutors have let off the rapper with a fine for his DUI incident. Read on to know more details about the incident.
Suga drunk driving case closed
As reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily, Suga’s drunk driving case has reportedly been closed without a trial. As per the report, Yoongi – who is also known by his rapper name Agust D, has been let off by prosecutors with a fine. However, details regarding the fine amount have not been disclosed.
The publication cited an official from the prosecution saying, “We gave a summary order according to our standards of operation.” As per reports, Suga’s blood alcohol level was 0.227% when caught. This number is three times higher than the 0.08% that can result in a driver’s license revoked.
In South Korea, drunk driving is a serious offence and can result in a drunk driver being sentenced to more than a year (but less than two years of prison) or receiving a fine of between 5-10 million won if the blood alcohol level is above 0.08%. If the alcohol level exceeds 0.2% , then the jail sentence can increase to more than two years but less than five years and the fine can range between 10-20 million won.
