Coldplay India concert to continue as planned; BookMyShow lodges complaint against unauthorised sale of tickets

The eagerly-awaited Coldplay concert in Mumbai is scheduled for January 2025. And it is currently marred by concerns over ticketing fraud, as millions of fans hastily sought a limited number of tickets, often expressing their frustrations on social media.

BookMyShow files FIR amid Coldplay concert controversy

On Thursday, BookMyShow announced filing a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the black marketing of tickets for the Coldplay performance. The company is examining the possibility of cancelling tickets sold through “unethical” means.

“In its ongoing fight against ticket scalping and black marketing of tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, BookMyShow has lodged a formal FIR (First Information Report) on October 2, 2024,” the statement read.

With three shows at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21 as part of their “Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025,” the demand has surged. This led to instances of tickets appearing on the black market at inflated prices. Consequently, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police has initiated an investigation.

“This action follows our initial complaint filed proactively with the Mumbai Police on September 23, 2024, addressing these concerns much before any formal complaint was raised against us. BookMyShow’s FIR filed with the Mumbai police also urges authorities to investigate the unauthorised resale of tickets by individuals and platforms,” the statement added.

Coldplay India concert to go as planned

Earlier this week, Mumbai police recorded the statement of Anil Makhija, chief operating officer of BookMyShow, concerning the complaint. The company reassured the fans that Coldplay’s performances would continue as scheduled, refuting reports to the contrary. BookMyShow also described the ongoing rumours of concert cancellation as factually incorrect.

“We remain vigilant in monitoring such instances of ticket reselling for this tour through black market channels and will continue to share all relevant information with the authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken,” it added.

BookMyShow has also shared information about resellers that have come to their attention. It includes independent individuals selling tickets on various social media platforms.
