Grammy Awards 2022 officially POSTPONED due to Omicron outbreak

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was originally scheduled to be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on January 31, 2022. However, it has been officially postponed indefinitely because of the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

In a joint statement from the CBS and the Recording Academy: “After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show.”

“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority,” it continued.

Further adding that a new date would be announced soon: “Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on Jan. 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon,” the academy statement said.

‘The Daily Show’ host Trevor Noah, who hosted the previous ceremony on March 14, 2021, will return as host. Meanwhile, Jon Batiste received the most nominations with 11, followed by Doja Cat, HER, and Justin Bieber with eight each. Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo were the next two nominees, each with seven.

The Recording Academy’s 64th Annual Grammy Awards are produced by Fulwell 73 Productions. Executive producers include Ben Winston, Jesse Collins, and Raj Kapoor, with Jeannae Rouzan Clay joining the team as a co-executive producer.

Reportedly, other entertainment industry events have been delayed or scaled back due to Omicron outbreak. Last year’s show-which was also scheduled for Jan. 31, 2021, was postponed six weeks to March 14, 2021.
