The romantic drama It Ends With Us – which also touched upon topics like toxicity in relationships, did well at the international box office. The film – based on Colleen Hoover’s hit 2016 novel of the same name, earned around $242 million worldwide and fans are eagerly awaiting its sequel. But will the sequel – starring Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni and Brandon Sklenar in lead roles, make it to the big screen?
As per a recent report, the possibility of a sequel is in doubt owing to the ongoing feud between the film’s co-stars and co-producers Lively and Baldoni. For the unversed,
It Ends With Us sequel in trouble?
While a sequel to the book ‘It Ends With Us’ already exists, the possibility of it making it to the big screen seems less likely. As per a recent Variety report, a sequel is unlikely to be made owing to the animosity between actors-producers Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
Justin, who helmed the first part, willingly spoke about stepping back as the director of the sequel if it were to be made. He told Entertainment Tonight at the film’s premiere, “I think there are better people for that. I think Blake Lively’s ready to direct.” For those who don’t know, Blake has previously directed BFF Taylor Swift’s 2022 music video I Bet You Think About Me. In the event she does direct the film, she’ll have to negotiate with Justin in his capacity as the leading producer, as his production house, Wayfarer Studios owns the rights to both books.
The report states, “This is uncharted territory, and nobody has any idea of what a sequel could look like. There’s probably no world where these two will work together again.”
Lively-Baldoni rift
Rumours of animosity between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni began circulating ever since the duo didn’t promote the film together. The film’s lead stars weren’t clicked together at the premiere either. As per reports, the film that was released was an edit commissioned by Blake that was different from that of Justin’s vision. The actress – during the press tour, even accused Justin of fat-shamming her and prolonging their kiss scene.
Bollywood Bubble reviewed It Ends With Us and gave it 3 stars. A part of the review reads, “The film beautifully addresses a very serious issue with a story that has light and love-filled moments. Blake Lively puts an end to the green-flag, red-flag drama with a tear-jerking performance that will empower all – men and women, to leave behind a toxic relationship. “
