Sex And The City star Willie Garson passes away at 57; Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall mourn his death

Actor Willie Garson who essayed the role of Stanford Blatch, Carrie Bradshaw’s best friend in the popular 1998 series Sex And The City passed away on Wednesday at the age of 57. The actor has also done notable roles in White Collar, There’s Something About Mary, Little Manhattan and many more. He was even seen in a cameo in the iconic sitcom, FRIENDS (Ross’ neighbour who asks for a contribution to throw a party for a member in the building) After the tragic demise of Willie Garson, his Sex And The City co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall expressed their grief over his death.

Cynthia who played Miranda in the show shared a picture with Garson and wrote on Twitter, “So deeply, deeply sad we have lost @WillieGarson. We all loved him and adored working with him. He was endlessly funny on-screen and in real life. He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional— always. My heart goes out to his son, Nathen Garson. Nathen, I hope you know how much he loved you and how proud he was to be your dad.”

Kim who was Samantha in the show also shared a picture from the show and wrote, “Such sad news and a terribly sad loss to the SATC family. Our condolences and RIP dear Willie xo”

A statement from HBO said: “Willie Garson was in life, as on screen, a devoted friend and a bright light for everyone in his universe. He created one of the most beloved characters from the HBO pantheon and was a member of our family for nearly 25 years. We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing and extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.” 

Though the reason behind his death is not yet revealed, Michael Patrick King, the executive producer of Sex and the City and said in a statement that Garson had been sick.

“The Sex and the City family has lost one of its own. Our amazing Willie Garson,” King said. “His spirit and his dedication to his craft was present every day filming And Just Like That. He was there – giving us his all – even while he was sick. His multitude of gifts as an actor and person will be missed by everyone. In this sad, dark moment we are comforted by our memory of his joy and light.”

Willie Garson was also shooting for Sex And The City Reboot with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon.
