‘Thor’ Chris Hemsworth to star in Disney’s Prince Charming- Reports

Chris Hemsworth, widely recognized for his portrayal of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is reportedly in discussions to assume the legendary role of Prince Charming in Disney’s forthcoming film. While specific story details remain under wraps, it has yet to be determined whether the movie will be a live-action or animated feature.

Chris Hemsworth to play Disney’s Prince Charming

The film will be directed by Paul King as per reports from Variety. Chris Hemsworth has been actively involved in recent projects, lending his voice to Optimus Prime in the animated film Transformers One. Earlier this year, Chris took on the role of the antagonist Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, sharing the screen with Anya Taylor-Joy. King will collaborate with Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker to co-write the screenplay.

Next on Chris Hemsworth’s agenda is the thriller Crime 101. It is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and features Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, and fellow Avengers co-star Mark Ruffalo. The film is adapted from a short story by Don Winslow. It revolves around a string of unsolved jewel thefts along the Pacific Coast Highway, with Hemsworth playing a solitary jewel thief planning one final heist while a detective seeks to apprehend him.

Paul King is directing Prince Charming and recently achieved success with Wonka. It grossed $218 million domestically and $634 million worldwide. He is also known for directing the hit Paddington films. As of now, Disney has not made any official statement regarding Hemsworth’s casting as Prince Charming, according to Variety.

Prince Charming was a specific character in Once Upon a Time, a TV series broadcast on the American channel ABC. The show mixed characters from Disney’s fairytale films to create a world where Snow White battled with Rumpelstiltskin, Captain Hook was an anti-hero and Maleficent was frenemies with Cruella de Vil and Ursula.

In that version, Prince Charming was played by Josh Dallas. He was married to Snow White rather than Cinderella. In the 2015 live-action version of Cinderella, the character was renamed Prince Kit and was portrayed by Richard Madden.

Chris Hemsworth has also previously played fairytale-adjacent roles. He portrayed the Huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman and The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
