Intense heat and distant bathroom locations led her to limit water intake, resulting in the scare. This incident underscores the extreme conditions faced by the cast during production.

Zendaya recalls suffering heatstroke on sets of Dune: Part Two

In an interview with W Magazine, Zendaya shared the difficulties of dealing with the extreme heat and the logistical nightmare of distant bathrooms on sets of Dune: Part Two. According to her, reaching the nearest restroom required a considerable hike, which led her to make the regrettable decision to limit her water intake.

“It was incredibly hot, and I was constantly aware of how far away the bathrooms were,” she recalled. “If you needed to go, you had to factor in at least 10 minutes just to get out of the costumes.”

She candidly admitted to her fears about managing bodily functions while in costume. “I was like, ‘I really don’t want to drink too much water.’ I was terrified of the thought of having an accident in the suit on set,” Zendaya confessed. Unfortunately, her avoidance of hydration backfired. “One day, I didn’t drink enough and ended up with heatstroke. I felt nauseous and ended up on the bathroom floor calling my mom, telling her I felt awful. She asked if I had drunk any water, and I realized I hadn’t. I thought I was being clever, but that was a mistake. Lesson learned.”

As Chani in both Dune films, Zendaya has already expressed her enthusiasm for a potential third instalment based on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah. The franchise has also expanded with the prequel series Dune: Prophecy, which recently premiered.
