Upen Patel's latest interview

Though his last release ‘Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha’ didn’t perform as expected at the box office, actor Upen Patel earned critical appreciation for his performance. Before this film, the actor was last seen on the big screen teaming up with ‘Robot’ director S Shankar in his film ‘I’ (2015). This was the first time when the actor was seen playing a negative role and it was well appreciated as well. The actor who had made his debut in films with ’36 China Town’ (2006) was recently asked about being choosy when it comes to the selection of his films. It even takes a gap of a year or two for him to be back on big screen. So, what does the actor look for when he signs a film?

The actor said, “All actors I believe are choosy when it comes to signing a film. It’s important you believe in the subject, I want to read a script and not be able to put it down, then I know this is the one and as an actor you also have a certain responsibility towards your audience. It’s not all about money, for me its more about the art and growing as a performer.” (Also Read: Upen Patel on break-up with Karishma Tanna: We are not splitting)

“I don’t take long gaps intentionally and I have no shame in asking for work, but I know being an outsider things take a little longer to fall in place,” added the actor.

Further, when asked whether the fate of his films at box office affects him, he said, “I’m an actor, I just focus on my performance and my director’s vision. Of course I want every film I do to be successful at the box office but that’s not in my control. What’s in my control is delivering a performance. Failure for me is part of growth and teaches me where I need to correct myself not just in movies but in life too, every time I’ve failed I’ve got up stronger. Success and failure go hand in hand and it’s important to be humble in victory and defeat.”
