Poor lady had less then six weeks to learn the art of wrestling, but she has managed to do it beautifully. In her latest interview, Anushka revealed all the pain that went behind becoming Aarfa. Initially, she said that she was really uncomfortable donning the hat of a wrestler and she gave a valid justification for the same. She narrated that as wrestling is contact sport, it was really difficult to wrestle with a guy. She said, “I had to learn wrestling and it is a contact sport so you are very close to somebody. Firstly, all of us as a person have a sense of how close somebody can come to us. On top of that I am an actor so in any case there is a boundary around me. So for the first time when I had to do it, I was doing it with a guy called Khatri and I was very uncomfortable. Because in wrestling your head is in someone’s armpits. Your head is on someone’s waist and it is really uncomfortable. I was like what is this happening. I was a bit hesitant because of that.  I was doing it but not wholeheartedly. But then when I saw myself, I was like ‘kitni buri lag rahi hoon mein’.  I had to go all out and then I saw videos of a girl wrestling guys on YouTube and I was like if you doing it then you have to do it fearlessly. So from the third class, I could do it properly.”

Further she also spoke about the dilemma she was in when the script came up to her. Of course, all of us have a certain perception of how a wrestler looks like or how a wrestler carries herself and definitely, Anushka seems to be way far from that perception. So she had that pressure of how to convince people that she can look like a wrestler. She said, “First of all, I was not sure whether I will be able to convince people that I can look like a wrestler. We all have a certain perception in mind when it comes to a wrestler that they would be huge and that’s what even I thought. I had not seen too much of wrestling and I did not know about anything. I thought I was working with a disadvantage that I have to break a sort of perception in people’s mind regarding a wrestler in the film. First time you are showing wrestling in the film and it’s a sports drama so you have to do it well. Plus I am a female wrestler, so there’s certain novelty in the same. So I was like I want to do it really well. I researched and found out that there are different weight categories and I saw various international wrestlers who were very much tall like me and toned. So I knew that this is the path that I have to follow.”

Well done, lady! We really like the way you gave up on your inhibitions and worked fearlessly for this much-awaited film ‘Sultan’.
