Pavan Kripalani reveals where the concept of ‘Phobia’ came from

After ‘Ragini MMS’ and ‘Darr@the mall’, filmmaker Pavan Kripalani is all set with his third venture. Titled ‘Phobia’, the film stars Radhika Apte in lead. When asked where the concept of the film came from, Kripalani revealed how ‘Phobia’ was rather an expression of his own inner fear and futile frustration that he earned whenever he learnt about any instance of violence.

“My concept behind ‘Phobia’ was something that was personally affecting me. Over the years, I have been reading on the social media, internet and newspapers, the growing instances of violence that are happening. Every morning when you get up, you read about some girl being raped, some guy being murdered, someone being hit in a hit-and-run… the ISIS, the terrorists, this, that! It is the constant chaos that has been happening for years now. In the beginning, it didn’t really affect me. But somehow, psychologically, it started f****** with me and I started realising that I am little scared to go outside,” Kripalani stated in a recent interview.

He further added how he became paranoid whenever someone dear to him went outside and constantly worried about their safety. He badly needed an outcome of the suppressed expressions and what better way than cinema?

Radhika Apte, in the film, is a woman who locks herself in a room and is scared to go out. As we land ourselves amidst a more and more violent world every day, such brutal honesty in cinematic form could be an eye-opener!

‘Phobia’ hits the screens on May 27, 2016.
