Ali Fazal attending an event

Actor Ali Fazal, who features in web-series “Bang Baaja Baaraat”, says he never considered it as a product for a different medium, and instead worked on it as though it was a “different kind of film”.

“I never felt it was a web-series. Earlier I didn’t know much about the space and didn’t want to do it. I’m happy with films, but this (‘Bang Baaja Baaraat’) is a different kind of film for me,” said Ali of his experience.

“We have actually shot it like a film and divided it into five parts as nowadays people can’t sit online for too long. That was the idea, and I think it’s a very good platform,” he added.

“Bang Baaja Baaraat” is being presented by Y- Films, a division of Yash Raj Films (YRF). Directed by Anand Tiwari, it also stars Rajit Kapur, Neil Bhoopalam and debutante Angira Dhar.

About working with the production house, Ali said: “I’m very blessed. And it was one of the reasons why I got involved with the project.”

Actors such as Radhika Apte, Manoj Bajpayee and Raveena Tandon have featured in short films on the web in the recent past.

Ali admits that the web space is new for him as an actor, but said that it has been “one of the best experiences of my life”.

“I didn’t miss any film set because it was as good as any of them, maybe better.”

“It’s an extremely fresh platform… It is at the cusp of explosion. Everyone is using the internet for almost everything – trailers, ads, movies and short films. This is the only thing that will reach everybody in the world.

“A film can reach only the places which the distributor has promised you, several films are not released internationally and web has that wide reach. There are Hollywood actors doing a lot of online content. So, I don’t think it’s in any way losing out (on my presence), I feel it’s only gaining,” said Ali, who has featured in the seventh instalment of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise.
