Look who we spotted at the Cannes film festival! It was actor-filmmaker Nandita Das who is back at the 70th edition of the festival, and this time she brings her film ‘Manto’. Did you know that Nandita has been a jury member at Cannes in the previous editions of the film festival? Hmm, so the actress seems to be familiar with the entire vibe of the red carpet and has graced the occasion with her enigmatic presence in the past. Every time she poses for the shutterbugs in ethnic Indian wear and those gorgeous kohl-lined eyes, we fall for her a little more. We remember those days of watching her evergreen movies like ‘Earth’, ‘Rockford’, and ‘Aks’ and being in awe of her for days! The starcast of the movie will be joining the filmmaker at the festival on May 22 and the team plans to unveil some of the film’s footage. Manto is based on the life of writer Saadat Hasan Manto. Actress Rasika Duggal plays the role of Manto’s wife, Safiyah Manto. Actor Rishi Kapoor also has a small but pivotal role in the film.

The lady was also accompanied by her lead actor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who came to Cannes from Croatia, where he is shooting for an international series. “Cannes is an exciting place to be. Some of the world’s best movies are screened there every year. Every actor, big or small, is respected there. It’s an experience that every actor needs to be a part of at least once in their lives,” says the actor.

Impeccably dressed, Das picked a golden Anavila zari sari for the night. Her hair was tied up in a bun and she completed her look with rings and bangles. Yeah, a simple saree may sound alien at an international platform, but she certainly managed to look stunning even in that avatar.
