Then purple, now orange: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s stint with pop lip colours at Cannes

Just when we thought that the femme fatale, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was done with flaunting her experimental side to the world with her purple lips last Cannes, the lady shows up at the Day 4 of the 70th edition of the Film Festival in a black off-shoulder gown with a pop orange lip colour.

Aishwarya is getting lauded for her choice of outfits and style statements this year at Cannes 2017. Though we liked all her outfits this time, she really set temperatures rising with her second princess-ey dress – yeah, we are talking about her Cinderella gown made of French lace and embellished with Swarovski crystals.

Even the next day, flash bulbs went popping and the red carpet was being set on fire with her sexy black gown by Ashi Studio couture. However, our eyes were again drawn to her lip colour, which was a bold orange one. Though the choice of shade looked oomphworthy on the Goddess of Cannes, we could not deny that it looked a bit cakey and out of place. But we wouldn’t deny that there was much quirk in her makeup; with that perfect combination of fiery lips and bright blue eyes. However, it is still pardonable when we compare it to the big lilac lip (as Ash called it) fiasco on the third day of Cannes 2016 when she and her Sarbjit team were at the venue for the special screening of the movie. That lipstick colour went on to become the target of online trolls, giving rise of innumerable memes, with people saying that Ash probably had many jamuns before making her red carpet appearance. The colour was even compared to Joey’s Ichiban lipstick for men in the show ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S.’

During her press meet this time, Aishwarya was interviewed by senior journalist Anupama Chopra about the incident. In the YouTube video, she said that it was a hectic time for her as she had to take Aaradhya to the beach and also make sure the Sarbjit team is all prepped up for the red carpet. So, when she finally got down to dressing up, her long-time stylist for Cannes whipped up the purple lipstick and asked Ash’s opinion. Ash told her ‘my face is your palette, do what you want’. And that’s how the quirky lipstick was born, dear readers! She further added that her Cannes experience till now has been extremely positive, and she just had one mantra – we will all go with the flow and you just enjoy the show.
