‘Ab Tak Chappan’ was one of the most memorable films made on encounter specialists. It narrated the story of Sadhu Mohan Agashe, played by the talented actor Nana Patekar. The story of the movie was based on real life cop Daya Naik, an outstanding film on crime and punishment. Ab Tak Chhappan was a bold movie that introduced us to the world of the underworld and our brave police force trying to curb it. The sequel ‘Ab Tak Chappan 2’ has the same fiery actor Nana Patekar who resurrects his role as an encounter cop. But he is let down by the poor script.
The story takes off, from where it ended in the prequel. After his wife is murdered, Sadhu Agashe (Nana Patekar) goes into self-proclaimed exile to ensure his son’s safety. But during his absence crime seems to have escalated in Mumbai. The home minister (Vikram Gokhale) wants Sadhu back on the job to tackle Mumbai’s escalating crime scene. But Sadhu is reluctant to pick up the gun again. After some encouraging words from his son, Sadhu returns on the job, only to find himself playing into the hands of the very criminals he had set out to kill.
Once again as in ‘Ab Tak Chhappan’, Sadhu is stymied by un-co-operative colleagues in the sequel too. Nana Patekar is seen after a long gap, but does still has the same style of delivering. He goes around like a whirlwind leaving corpses in his trial. Gul Panag plays a crime journalist in the film, is seen in the most improbable places. The rest of the characters are too predictable. And everyone, from Govind Namdeo to Raj Zutshi, Vikram Gokhale, Ashutosh Rana, Gul Panag are wasted.
‘Ab Tak Chappan 2’ has tried to takeover from where the earlier had ended, but failed miserably. It is only Nana’s stellar acting that makes the movie watchable. The plot of ‘Ab Tak Chhapan 2’ is absolutely undecipherable. The dialogues are over the top. The music by Sandeep Chowta is crass. The crazy camera angles adds to the misery of the viewers. The weak story line is the final nail in the coffin.
The cops, politicians, journalists, basically everyone involved in the film keep spouting the same lines. The beginning is promising, but the film soon palls. It becomes quite predictable of what is going to happen next soon.
Watch if you are Nana Patekar fan only.
