Karan Malhotra who had wowed the audience with the remake of ‘Agneepath’ is back with a new remake, this time around he has chosen a Hollywood blockbuster ‘Warriors’ and churned it out for the Indian audience sprinkling it with sentimental family ties. There were high expectations from Karan Johar’s recent release ‘Brothers’ starring Akshay Kumar, Sidhath Malhotra, Jackie Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandez.

Brothers is a high-octane family drama set against the blood curdling backdrop of Mixed Martial Arts. Though the film has a powerful story and terrific action sequences, it somehow gets bogged down by its pace.

Gary (Jackie Shroff) who had been serving sentence in jail for his wife Maria’s (Shefali Shah) murder, is released from jail. His younger son Monty (Sidharth Malhotra) comes over to take him home. Then there is David (Akshay Kumar) Gary’s elder son, who is married to Janni (Jacqueline Fernandez) and have a little daughter who is suffering from kidney problem. To get his daughter cured, David decides to enter a fight competition. But he has to fight his younger brother Monty to win the game. So will the ‘Brothers’ take the path of revenge or will they make peace with their past? All this and many more answers will be revealed when you watch the film.

Jackie Shroff is the surprise factor in the film, as he steals the show, as a father he has done a rather impressive job. Jackie’s expressions will make you applaud him. His body language is quite impressive and the emotional outburst expresses his helplessness. He will surely take some awards home for his outstanding performance of a man troubled by the happenings in his life.

Akshay Kumar as David as usual was at his best. He is perfectly cast as the elder brother David and the bonds that he shares with his family are surely going to leave many in tears. The emotions that he has portrayed to depict that he will go to any length to save his daughter will connect him to the audience. His brotherly concern for his younger brother tugs at your heartstrings.

Sidharth Malhotra is like a tiger on a leash, as a brooding angry young man he has done quite a job. The actor has truly worked hard to get the look and action right. Jacqueline Fernandez has a very small role but has done a rather decent job.

The USP of the film is the fight scene between Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra. If the first half is slow the second half picks up the pace. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Mary song is quite glamorous.

All in all the movie is quite watchable even though not on par with ‘Warriors’.
