Captain America: Brave New World Review

Set a couple of years after the Eternals, Captain America: Brave New World is all about one’s legacy, taking responsibility for ones past actions, the power game and friendships – both old & new. Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford – replacing the late William Hurt) – the man who proposed the Sokovia Accords and placed the Avengers under the supervision of the United Nations, is the newly elected US President. During the initial 3 months of his tenure, he attempts to convince newly appointed Captain America Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) to work with him and revive the Avengers. To talk about this proposal and as to thank him for saving the new strongest material in the MCU – Adamantium from the Emergence, Wilson is invited to a White House event with his pals Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) – aka the new Falcon, and Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) – a former super soldier who was imprisoned and experimented on for 30 years.

It’s during this White House event that Ross’ inner circle is compromised as five individual from his team and Bradley attempt to assassinate him in public. While Bradley is incarcerated following a brief chase across Washington, DC, the former super soldier has no recollection of his actions. As Ross attempts at maintaining international relationships and making sure the USA has an equal share of Adamantium if not complete control of the metal, it’s up to Sam and Joaquin to investigate who’s behind the attempted assassination of the president and uncovering their ultimate goal.

What Works

Anthony Mackie’s performance as the new Captain America is commendable and so is his rapport with Danny Ramirez’ Joaquin and Carl Lumbly’s Isaiah.
