Deva Review

Deva revolves around the fierce and rebellious police officer Deva Ambre, portrayed by Shahid Kapoor, who unearths a web of deceit and betrayal while investigating a high-profile case. Packed with intense action sequences and a gripping storyline, the film brings Shahid back to his power-packed “angry young man” persona which we often notice in Amitabh Bachchan movies.

The film begins with the finding of a gangster and the twist in the tale begins when the narrative shifts into the investigation of a police inspect Rohan, played by Pavail Gulati’s murder mystery. Why he was killed? Who is behind is murder? What Deva finds in his investigation is what makes the mystery alive and the film a must watch. As the story will keep you at the edge of your seat with each scene. The first haft of the film is slow as it shows ‘Dev A’ the rowdy and rebellious, who follows no rules in his life. While, the second half of the film is post the incident where ‘Dev B’ has lost his memories but still have the trades of the first half of his character, questions his own self in the murder mystery.

What Works

Shahid Kapoor delivers a bold, intense performance, effortlessly carrying the film on his shoulders. High-energy songs Bhasad Macha and Marji Cha Maalik elevate the cinematic experience.  On the other hand, the film has a well-choreographed action and comic scenes keep the audience engaged throughout.

What Doesn’t Work

Certain plot elements lack originality and feel predictable. Emotional arcs could have been better developed.

Technical Analysis

Rosshan Andrrews’ direction captures the intensity of a cop thriller, though tighter editing could have made the narrative more impactful. The cinematography and background score add to the gritty atmosphere.

Star Performances

The film’s biggest strength, Shahid Kapoor commands the screen with his fiery portrayal of Deva Ambre. Pavail Gulati leaves a lasting emotional impact with his heartfelt performance.

Also, Pooja Hegde’s characters starts off weak but redeems herself with a solid finish. Other supporting characters such as Pravessh Rana & Kubbra Sait deliver impactful performances with their part in the story.

Conclusion

Overall, Deva is a complete masala entertainer that blends action, drama, and music to deliver a thrilling cinematic experience. With Shahid Kapoor at the helm, this film is perfect for a weekend binge and is bound to keep you hooked until the last frame.
