Fukrey 3 Review

The Fukreys are back and how! They have done it again and this time, even more brilliantly. Director Mrigdeep Singh Lamba is back with the third part of the Fukrey franchise, after Fukrey (2013) and Fukrey Returns (2017). It stars the phenomenal ensemble cast of Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Manjot Singh, Richa Chadha and Pankaj Tripathi. Ali Fazal is missing in this one and we do miss him in bits and pieces. But the team has delivered an out-and-out comedy brilliantly with Fukrey 3.

Storyline

The 2-hour-25-minute long film takes us through the lives of the Fukra gang and begins from where it ended in the 2nd part. Choochaa (Varun Sharma), Hunny (Pulkit Samrat), Lali (Manjot Singh), Pandit Ji’s (Pankaj Tripathi) Janta Store has failed big time and now the Fukreys are earning small amounts with some jugaads and Choochaa’s special Deja Chu power. Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chadha) has turned politician and is now contesting elections for Minister of Water Resources.

Bholi, desperate to win the elections, asks Pandit Ji to come up with a hack along with the Fukra gang to gather people for her campaign. However, things go against her when the crowd starts supporting Choochaa more than her and Hunny makes a plan to make Choochaa stand opposite Bholi in the elections.

But Bholi is no less, she makes a plan and sends the Fukra gang to South Africa in the name of diamond hunting so that they are unable to promote Choochaa in the promotional campaigns before the final election. What starts off as a failed trip soon turns into a success for the Fukra gang as they discover that the mixture Choochaa’s urine and Hunny’s sweat turns into Hydro Carbon aka Petrol. The gang returns to India and earns lots of money by selling their self-made petrol. However, things do not go as expected with a big twist taking over – this you need to witness yourself only in theatres. No spoilers here!

Fukrey 3 is that comedy movie which we have been waiting for a really long time. It’s a solid laugh riot and also delivers a subtle social message. And of course, we love it when something is delivered in a subtle non-preachy manner. It also brings back the nostalgia of the first two parts. The bond of the Fukrey gang is just unmissable.

Performances

Each and every actor in Fukrey 3 is a perfect fit. We know that ever since we watched the first part. But in this one, Varun Sharma and Pankaj Tripathi are the clear winners. Their one-liners, comic-timing and A1 acting deserve a standing ovation. Pulkit Samrat adds the much-needed sensuousness to the film and carries the movie on his shoulders whenever the others fall short.

Manjot is as impressive as Lali and adds his cuteness to the movie. But I expected a lot more Richa as Bholi. Somehow, her performance is not up to the mark in this one. The sass and quirk that I expect from a character like Bholi is missing. Manu Rishi Chadha delivers a fun performance and lends good support.

Technical Aspect

Mrighdeep Singh Lamba manages to keep the humour intact in Fukrey 3. It’s either a hit or a miss when you work on a franchise and for Fukrey 3, it definitely is a hit. Vipul Vig deserves a bow for infusing several hilarious punchlines and making sure to make Fukrey 3 a fun comic experience. Amalendu Chaudhary’s cinematography is up to the mark. Manan Ashwin Mehta’s editing, however, could have been crispier. Tanishk Bagchi and Sumeet Bellary’s music is praise-worthy.

What’s great about the Mrigdeep Singh Lamba-directorial

Comic Timing: The entire cast of Fukrey 3 shows how it’s supposed to be done when you are a part of an out-and-out comedy movie. The comic timing of every cast member is near-perfect.

Dialogues: Dialogues are always the backbone of any movie and in Fukrey 3, they are whistle-worthy and the clear winner. I was whistling throughout the film and it was one of the most fun movie experiences I have had in a really long time.

Social Message: What I didn’t expect from a comedy like Fukrey was a social message and the way the team blended it in is commendable. The second half of the film talks about an important social issue very subtly and it works in favour of the film.

Fukrey 3 Drawbacks

Climax: The only thing that didn’t work for me was the water-park climax scene. It is extremely cluttered with too many things happening at the same time. It could have been shot in a crisper manner.

Conclusion

If you’re a fan of comedy as a genre, then Fukrey 3 is the film for you! Watch it for the team’s incredible comic timing and whistle-worthy dialogues. Unlike some of the other franchises, Fukrey doesn’t lose its charm even in the third part. Varun Sharma and Pankaj Tripathi are the clear winners in this one.
