Heart of Stone Review

When Alia Bhatt’s big Hollywood debut Heart of Stone was announced in 2022, all eyes were on the actress. It is not only her first international movie but also her first out-and-out action film. So obviously, fans expected something big from Bollywood’s acclaimed star. Also starring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan & Matthias Schweighöfer, Heart of Stone is directed by British film director Tom Harper. It is based on Rachel Stone – an intelligence operative, the only woman who stands between her powerful global peacekeeping organization and the loss of its most valuable and dangerous asset.

Storyline

The 2 hour 3 minutes long film begins with Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot), who is revealed as the member of a secret agency called the Charter called ‘The Heart’. They take over when governments fail and have the most highly trained agents with no political leanings or any national allegiances. They work together to maintain peace in a turbulent world. While Stone tries her best to save the Charter from its enemies, it is tech prodigy Keya Dhawan’s (Alia Bhatt) grand entry that makes her work difficult than ever. Keya along with her destruction partner Parker (Jamie Dornan) pans out a plan to destroy Stone and her Charter.

How Stone and Keya embark on this dangerous mission to protect & destroy the mysterious Heart is what makes the crux of this gripping story. Their face-off is something to watch out for!

Performances

Alia Bhatt is unexceptionally good as Keya Dhawan. She pulls off the evil act like a pro. Something many people must have not expected from the Bollywood sweetheart. Her expressions are top notch and the way she carries the grey shade in her character is impressive. And hey, she shot the film while she was pregnant. That’s a superpower right there. Gal Gadot is a treat to watch. As a lethal secret agent, she takes over with her extraordinary action and power-packed scenes. Both Jamie Dornan & Matthias Schweighöfer lend good support to the film.

Technical Aspect

Tom Harper’s direction is praise-worthy but he fails to explore all his characters deeply. Screenplay by Greg Rucka & Allison Schroeder is thrilling and keeps us hooked but in bits and pieces. George Steel’s cinematography is flawless, the way he manages to show the action is incredible. Mark Eckersley’s editing, however, looks dragged. The film’s second half and climax could have been crispier. Steven Price’s music matches the thrilling backdrop of the film.

What’s great about the Tom Harper directorial

Casting: Be it Alia Bhatt and Gal Gadot’s epic face-off or Jamie Dornan’s evil act, each and every character in the film is well cast. The star cast fits their respective roles effortlessly.

Power-packed action: Gal Gadot leaves us impressed with high-stake action scenes involving a snowy chase, multiple fist-fights, and much more. What the best part about the action shown in Heart of Stone is that it doesn’t end up looking unrealistic.

Thrilling storyline: Hats off to Greg Rucka & Allison Schroeder for making the film’s storleyine as gripping and thrilling as possible. The thrills and chills of Heart of Stone will surely keep everyone at the edge of their seats.

Drawbacks of Heart of Stone

Confusing plot: While the storyline is gripping, it also ends up becoming confusing. Blink an eye and you might miss some major twist.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a one-time thrilling watch this weekend, then Heart of Stone on Netflix is the film for you. And of course, it has Alia Bhatt for all the Bollywood buffs out there!
