Film: Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2
Star cast: Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar
Bollywood Bubble ratings: 4 stars
There’s a reason why Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) was considered to be a cult movie. When I heard that it was going to be remade, the first thought that struck me was ‘whyyyyy’. I was very certain that it might not have the charm as the previous one but Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani and Tabu starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 turned out to be a surprise package. It hits you with all the surprise elements. I won’t say it is the best movie of this year but Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 will still strike a chord with you. The film will take you on a laughter ride with a little tinge of spookiness. Read Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 movie review here.
Story:
Set within the sprawling halls of a haveli, an evil spirit name Manjulika has been creating a ruckus in the lives of Thakur. It is then that they call for a renowned priest who traps the evil spirit in the room forever. But the door is opened once again after 18 years because of Reeth, unleashing dark and nasty untold secrets. However, will Ruhan be able to bring out the truth? Will he save the Thakurs from the haunting evil?Â
Star performances:
Kartik Aaryan as Ruhan Aka Rooh baba is a delight to watch and since I’m a Bengali, I would say his performance was fatafati. Kartik continues to bring the chill-easy vibe just like in his previous films Pyaar ka Punchnama, Luka Chuppi or even Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety but he proves his mettle as an actor in the climax scene. Though one will find some glitches in that part, his attempt to try something new is quite commendable.
Kiara Advani as Reeth is beautiful and enchanting. There’s nothing extraordinary about the character or her portraying the character but she plays her part well. Apart from that, the one thing in the film that left us quite amazed was her dancing skills.
Tabu as Anjulika is quite outstanding! Her character has many shades and many characters (you’ll know as I’m trying to refrain myself from spilling beans) She is a game changer, a thunder stealer and phenomenal in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. She plays a simple housewife of the Thakurs, but her edginess pulls you closer to her. And yes, expect the unexpected from her.
Supporting cast like Sanjay Mishra as bade pandit, Ashwini Kalsekar as his wife and Rajpal Yadav as chote pandit contribute immensely well with the comic elements. Their mere expressions and even presence will surely tickle your funny bone. Their comic timings were the ones that makes the film enjoyable.
Direction/ Screenplay:Â
Given the fact that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is touted to be a horror comedy, Anees Bazmee (Director) lacked to send chills down your spine. There was not a single moment that will spook you, not even Manjulika’s ghost get-up. Anees tries to strike a balance between horror and humour but it is not shown as much as one would expect. The film lacks horror but situational comedies, humour, and witty dialogues will at least make you chuckle if not laugh. The climax scene was intense but had the most bizarre ending. It leaves you on a confusing note.
Conclusion:Â
In totality, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is thrilling and thoroughly entertaining. Though the horror element seems like a cameo, the entire film has a mass appeal. It is Kartik and Tabu who carry the film on their shoulders. His fatafati performance and Tabu’s sheer par excellence work will surely make Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 a blockbuster.
