Superstar Salman Khan recently wowed his fans with an amazing performance as Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi a Hanuman Bhakt in Kabir Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. The Khan is now depicting the role of a Ram Bhakt in his recent release ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’. The Sooraj Barjatya directorial has been in the news for revival of Salman’s most loved onscreen character Prem.
‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ tells a story of a Yuvraj Vijay Singh and a pauper Prem Dilwala. Where the Yuvraj is immersed in self-pity all thanks to his conniving family that consists of an evil step brother Neil Nitin Mukesh who is constantly planning to tip over the Yuvraj and take his rightful place on the throne and step sisters Swara Bhaskar and Aashika Bhatia who are constantly cursing their luck to be under his patronage.
On the other hand Prem is a Ram Bhakt the star attraction in a Ram-Leela troupe based in Ayodhya. He is a fan of princess Maithali who runs a charitable organization Uphaar and a garments business in Delhi. He had seen her in action supervising a flood relief camp and had developed a crush on her. But herein comes the twist, she is already engaged to Yuvraj Vijay Singh. Where the Yuvraj feels family is of no use, Prem on the other hand believes that family is important. Finally, the two decide to exchange places and learn how the other half lives.
How the Yuvraj manages to convince Prem to take his place? How the evil brother plans to kill the Yuvraj and is he successful? The last and the least finally whom does Maithili choose as her better half the lovable Prem or the grumpy Yuvraj? All these and many more questions will be answered in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Sooraj Barjatya has come up with a film that is stamped with times long gone by. Though he has made it on a grand scale with those huge sets and grand costumes, somewhere along the line it becomes a tad over the top. It is all thanks to Salman Khan’s presence that the movie is plausibly believeable.
Rajshri Productions known to promote ethics of Indian culture through their films have not taken into consideration that large gooey families who love to be at the beck and call of each other a big no-no in present times.
Sonam Kapoor is in her element dressed to the tee as a princess adding zest to the character with her adah. The flaw being her acting skills that need to be more polished to be cast opposite Salman Khan. Neil Nitin Mukesh as the conniving step brother who takes help from the manager of the property Armaan Kohli to kill his Bro fit the bill. The surprise package of the lot is Swara Bhaskar, the talented actress has reflected the right angst in the film. Anupam Kher in the role of a loyal Shahi Dewan has performed outstandingly.
Music by Himesh Reshammiya has brought back the Rajshri stamp to life, the melodious songs bring back memories of the long gone past. V. Manikandan’s cinematography is soothing to the eyes. Sooraj should have edited the film to give a shorter and a slicker version to the viewers.
Watch the film for Salman Khan who carries it effortlessly on his broad shoulders. As ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is a family entertainer get your tickets now.
