Kho Gaye Hum Kahan review

Agar Dost Hai Toh Followers Ki Kya Zaroorat – this dialogue from Kho Gaye Hum Kahan has hit me to a different level. In this digital world, social media chaos, hum bhi kahi na kahi kho gaye hai. We are no longer connected to the real world or even connected to our loved ones. We are so interested to know other people’s life and their whereabouts that we don’t even know what’s our parent’s favourite thing to do. It’s like we don’t know if our parents are going through some crisis because we are busy scrolling and putting ourselves out there as best. There’s a line in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan that people get updates about each other via social media and this is so true. As I had to pen down my review, I felt Kho Gaye Hum Kahan is a new-age drama that gives a bit reality check.

Furthermore, you even start relating to it and that hurts even more because we get to see the truth of the new generation. Kho Gaye Hum Kahan beautifully shows the flaws of our generation without being preachy and technical. Arjun just wanted to show the real side of this generation and he does it with great understanding.

Story

Ahana, Imaad and Neil are childhood friends and have become best friends. Imaad and Ahana live together as friends while Neil stays with his parents. Ahana is a Marketing strategist, Imaad is a standup comedian whereas Neil is a gym trainer. They all live a happy life and where they meet each other everyday. However, like every other friendships, this one also turned a little sour due to misunderstandings. They juggle life as 20-somethings in Mumbai where romance, ambition and heartbreak collide with the addictive draw of social media.

Highlights of Kho Gaye Hum Kahan

Emotional Value: When I talk about emotional value, it doesn’t make you cry but makes your heart warm. Be it their friendship or relationship, everything about them was so heartwarming. I liked how Arjun tried to keep everything real regarding emotions or relations. For instance, in the movie, the three of them plan to start their own business and they ensure to make it work. I mean we all have planned to start our own business with our friends at some point in our life. When I saw the scene, it just made me emotional because we all do the same. You will get to see more such instances in the movie that add more to emotions.

Keeping it real/ unfiltered: The best part about this movie is everything is so unfiltered, unlike Instagram. From their feelings to their relationships, it is so real that you start relating to it. There’s a lot of relatable value and you will see yourself connecting it to the movie in so many levels.

Gen Z theme: Since it is about today’s generation, Arjun showed us how people react to certain things in today’s time. For instance, Neil’s father tells his son that you guys don’t understand the difference between ‘need’ and ‘want’. Similarly, there’s another scene in which he shows that even though people are sad in their lives, people only show their best parts or try to be their best on social media. There’s a scene where Ahana tries to flaunt her beauty and tries to gain attention from people. But behind the camera, she is seen heartbroken and yet, she goes through all the fuss to get ready for followers.

Reality Check: As I have mentioned before, Arjun seems to be trying to give a reality check to the people who are living a life on a phone or social media. Arjun makes things understandable in the most sorting and simple way that people can feel the connection. Hence, it is surely one of the highlights that makes the movie watchable.

Drawbacks of Kho Gaye Hum Kahan

Dramatic: It becomes a little dramatic in the second half of the movie. There’s a scene when Neil tries to do something unethical, I feel it was a little too much. Yes, such things happen daily with loads of people; however, I think it was shown a bit extreme.

Screenplay: I wish we could have gotten to see more friendship between Imaad, Ahana and Neil. Arjun was so focused on the social media subject that I feel he didn’t give much importance to the friendship which is the base of the story. I wish I had gotten to see more aspects of the friendship and the consequences.

Star performances

For a change, I liked Ananya Panday as Ahana in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. She was the real self in the movie and I guess that is what impressed me. Ananya plays her part quite well and I feel more connected because somewhere I feel she was not pretending to be a character but playing one.

Siddhant Chaturvedi is charming as Imaad for sure but not as a standup comedian. He is a good actor and I guess that’s why his standups also looked like he is acting. It didn’t look as natural as it was supposed to be. I get he is an actor and standup needs a different body language; however, Siddhant still tried to deliver a decent performance.

Adarsh Gourav plays the role of Neil in the movie and he gives a fair performance. He shines well in the emotional parts. Plus, he looked really good as he flaunted his fierce abs in the movie.

Kalki Koechlin is seen in a special role as Imaad’s girlfriend and she is just lovely. She is just amazing in her part as she played it with utmost honesty.

Conclusion

Concluding my review, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan is a new-age movie that will resonate with every Gen Z. The movie will give you a reality check and it is the emotions of friendships and relationships that will make it very relatable. It is a simple film that talks about social media drama and how it affects you personally.
