Sikandar Ka Muqaddar REVIEW
Written and directed by Neeraj Pandey, Sikandar Ka Muqaddar tells the tale of a cop hell bent on solving a robbery even 15 years after its committed even if it cost him his everything. The nearly 2.5 hour long film begins in Mumbai where a large jewellry exhibition turns into a robbery. While the thieves are apprehended and murdered at the venue, someone still manages to steal 5 red solitaires. When searches of the venue and all present there result in the precious stones not being found, Chief investigator officer Jaswinder Singh (Jimmy Shergill) zeroes in on three suspects – the robbed jewellry store’s long-time employee Mangesh Desai (Mehta), another employee there Kamini (Tamannaah Bhatia), and computer techie Sikandar Sharma (Avinash Tiwary) who is in a tearing hurry to leave the venue.
With the investigation spanning 15 years, the big question is who robbed the event and how did they manage to smuggle the diamonds out without detection? Is Sikandar the real criminal? Was Jaswinder’s intuition of him being the thief true? To know the answers to this questions, one will need to watch Sikandar Ka Muqaddar and here’s our honest review of it.
What Works
Avinash Tiwary and Jimmy Shergill’s performances as Sikandar Sharma and Chief investigator Officer Jaswinder Singh, respectively, is impressive.
What Doesn’t Work
Neeraj Pandey’s writing seems all over the place with way to many twist and turns for a 2.5 hour film that still manage to make you loose interest.
Sikandar Ka Muqaddar Star Cast
Avinash Tiwary is the star of this film and Jimmy Shergill is not far behind. Tiwari delivers a believable performance as the poverty stricken Sikandar Sharma. His expressive eyes clearly convey the emotions of his character every time he attracts something to himself – be it a girl/love interest or troubles in the form of joblessness, robberies or homelessness.
Shergill as Chief investigator Officer Jaswinder Singh does an impressive job and makes you root for him in the start to catch the actual criminal and not just want to prove Sikandar as the crook. However, he also partially manages to make your boil you blood when he reveals the things he’s done to prove Tiwary’s character as the theif.
The film belongs to Avinash and Jimmy, with Tamannaah Bhatia’s Kamini appearing as more of a supporting character who helps take the narrative forward and add an unwanted twist. Rajeev Mehta as Mangesh Desai and Divya Dutta as Jaswinder Singh’s wife have limited screentime. You will mostly remember them only when they pop up from time to time in the dialogues.
Conclusion
If you have nothing to do this weekend and want to just past time, Sikandar Ka Muqaddar is a good watch – otherwise give it a miss. Also, if you are a fan of Jimmy and Avinash do watch it for them, but remember – it will feel like wasting time.
